Project management is a methodical approach to planning and guiding project processes from beginning to end. It is a strategy used by administrations, allowing them to determine project outcomes to business objectives and to better challenge the business environment. In other words, project management is the analyzing, evaluating, designing and development of an idea. (Rouse, 2008) Virtual teams consist of individuals from different time zones, cultures or ethnicities and languages, which are combined to achieve an objective. The Virtual project management is the structure by which virtual teams cooperate for a limited period of time towards a definite objective. There are several problems that could arise because of the different origins such as difference in language, culture, performance, time zones etc. Virtual teams have robust business reasoning. Virtual teams can be fashioned rapidly and are responsive in nature. These teams can benefit organizations in dropping their reaction time to variations in today’s agitated competitive markets. These organizations are also capable in influencing skill that is dispersed over topographical regions that were formerly left unexploited. Additionally, virtual teams can also profit employees as they reduce the disturbance of the worker’s life by demanding less travel time to encounter with spread teams. Moreover, team members have the chance to widen their understanding by working through organizations and cultures. The process of forming virtual teams is very crucial and plays a significant role in the success of a virtual team, since the team members can be formed from virtually anywhere. As such, the management of the particular organizations needs to take significant care in the formation of virtual teams. Being able to communicate at the physical level compared to other means offers a better way to transfer information. Having a team be together for a long period of time also helps fade the problems faced by heterogeneous teams. One negative could be the moving to new locations which can cause some individuals to leave their families and friends. Another disadvantages is the cost which can be very expensive and disruptive considering some people may be hard to replace. Virtual teams can be hard to utilize considering the high amount of trust or the exchange of important loads of knowledge. Virtual teams would not work very good in my example of the development project of the locker rooms here at the University of Mary. The need to physically build and watch over the construction site would make a virtual team impossible because the workers and engineers need to be on the site to get the job
Many organizations today believe that the use of work teams will allow them to produce better products and provide better services, faster, and at lower costs. Using a work team approach can reinvigorate productivity and service provider motivation, and better position an organization to deal with a rapidly changing environment. However establishing effective work teams is not something that comes easy. Though, the benefits of effective work teams within an organization are very substantial, it takes alot of hard work and dedication on the part of management and team members to develop, implement and maintain effective work teams.
The evolution of globalization and the advancement of communication technology have increased the amount of cross cultural, virtual teams in existence in today’s business world. Cross cultural, virtual teams can leverage on the diverse experiences of its members to achieve good results even without the members meeting face to face.
A virtual team is a group of people working interdependently via various types of electronic media across organizational and geographical boundaries for a shared purpose (D’Souza & Colarelli, 2010). Research indicates virtual teams are becoming increasingly popular in organizations across the United States and the world (D’Souza & Colarelli, 2010; Rusman, van Bruggen, Sloep, & Koper, 2010). These teams vary in size, degree of geographic dispersion, prior shared work experience, nature of assignment, and expectations of a common future (Rusman et al., 2010). Although virtual teams have potential advantages like the removal of physical boundaries, the ability to form new partnerships, and optimization of competencies (Chinowsky & Rojas, 2003), they also introduce many challenges that may not be as prevalent in traditional teams.

In conclusion, I believe despite the fact that virtual team member and leaders face unique challenges, they revolutionizing the global workforce. If done correctly and with strong leadership, virtual teams can increase productivity, lower costs and save precious time for organizations and businesses and their clients.
