Has there ever been something so small and meaningless that it actually has the same struggles as man does? “The Death of the Moth by Virginia Woolf” is about Woolf getting distracted by a moth that dies on her windowsill. The essay that she writes about the moth death and the struggle that it had before it perished has a lot of similarities to those that man might sometimes go through. The moth is like man because both are fighting against death, they have both stubbornness and determination and the moth and man have bystanders watching. One reason why the moth is like the man is that both the moth and man fight against death. In Woolf essay, the moth even though it’s about to die its fighting death by struggling to get right-side up. Woolf describes the moth fight against death as “One could only watch the extraordinary efforts made by those tiny legs against an oncoming doom which could, had it chosen, have submerged” (Woolf 632). The moth when it’s lying on its backside even though it knows that death is knocking on its doors it’s showing stubbornness and determination by using its legs to roll right-side up. Woolf describes both the moths’ stubbornness and determination as “Nevertheless after a pause of exhaustion the legs fluttered again. It was superb this last protest, and so frantic that he succeeded at last in righting himself.”(Woolf 633) .Like the moth, man also has both stubbornness and determination. The way man shows stubbornness is that man shows stubbornness by refusing to change their mind about something whether it’s something that they said or actions that they did.
