Body Image Body image can be looked at in many ways because of our society and stereotypes control what we really think. As a woman, we have it pretty tough when we constantly let the media say what the “perfect” body should be and we compare ourselves to others. No one should ever compare their bodies to another because God made everyone different and unique. The one statement I want to make clear is, “Everyone knows what a beautiful person, and especially a beautiful woman, looks like, even though this notion is constantly in flux and varies across time and culture. One industry that has its toughest critics is advertisements. Victoria’s Secret is a nationwide brand that is known for its sexy, slim, beautiful women promoting their lingerie line. Does anyone ever closely look at the details of the models in the commercials? Victoria Secret is very good at slow motion movement, seductive looks, and camera shots at every model. Models that are used in their commercials tend to be very beautiful, radiant skin, blowing hair, and slim body that will draw more attention to their products. It is insane how a seductive commercial can have so much influence and can increase sales. Commercials also uses famous celebrities who has a excellent body image and a big fan base to promote their brand. Cindy Crawford’s Meaningful Beauty products advertise using women who has stressed over having wrinkles and age spots who tried everything to get rid of the unwanted. She used before and after pictures of each client but stressed that the clients feel and look better after using her products. JC Penney’s commercial always use women who are overly happy wearing their apparel and also give incentives while purchasing their apparel. Rihanna was featured in the Puma brand apparel and how great she felt wearing their clothing to train. The truth was finally revealed when I paid attention to details of each gender during an ESPN news report. The woman reporter did not speak as much as the male nor discussed important topics. I may be a little biased but that is not fair in any way, shape or form. The male reporter spoke on each play, his opinion, and speaks approximately 5-10 minutes more than the woman reporter. Is it noticeable that a woman does not get the same opportunities a man gets? I did get a taste of horizontal segregation when a woman is being a reporter in a male-centered environment.
