I’m set to take the ACT next Saturday, on February the 11th. I obviously hope I get a 20 on it so I can apply for the program. I’ve taken the COMPASS test already. I was just wondering if I don’t make a 20 am I not eligible to apply for the program at all? Growing up my parents always taught my sister and I that we should always be grateful for what we had. Take care of all our toys and expensive things that they brought us. They taught us that you have to work hard for what you want and nothing is handed to you. Even though me and my sister always got what wanted we also knew that we worked for it and that made getting it even better. I believe my parents raised me pretty good. I always respected them and knew my limits, me and my sister had chores we had to do and if they weren't done by the end of the week we would have a consequence. This taught us responsibility and that in the real world if you don't do your job you would be fired or there would be a consequence you would have to pay. Lately I have noticed that a lot of kids in today's society are very ungrateful. They feel entitled and believe that they shouldn't have to work for anything. They think things should just be handed to them without any questions asked. I think I have a way to stop this rising trait in today's youth.

I picked up my starting blocks and walked over to the white line along with the seven other girls right beside me. I rubbed the bitter cold from my arms, and took a deep breath. I went to work setting up my blocks, dropping the footholds into the slots that fit my specific measurements. The starter announced that we would have two more minutes to take some practice starts before he would call us to the line. I got down in my blocks, rose up, and finally sprang out of them, just as well as I had been doing in practice the day before. This is the life of the shelter animal when no one adopts them for a certain period of time. According to American Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals or known as ASPCA, each year, approximately 2.7 million animals are euthanized, which are 1.2 million dogs and 1.4 million cats. I am sure; most of you have some point in your life, owned a dog or a cat. Whether you are an animal lover or not, you don’t want to see innocent animals losing their lives. All my life I was asked the question, have I ever had braces before? I never really exactly saw what others seen in my teeth, until one day when I had my first real dentist visit. The dentist office was very interesting, from the way it looked to the way they operated (I always thought the dentist did the same as a doctor). As I went in for my cleaning the dentist saw that I had a couple cavities, I was trying to figure out what was a cavity. How is this affecting my nice teeth? Am I going to lose the tooth? All these things ran through my mind as I heard the news. The dentist came in and explain everything to me and my mom, gave us the option for fixing this problem.
