Banning Phone Usage While Driving Some states have now made it illegal to drive while talking on a hand held cell phone. This issue has been opposed if it should be passed in other states as well. I think it should be illegal to drive while talking on a hand held cellular phone in other states as well. In fact, other people believe that the phone call could be a dire emergency while they ate still driving on the road. On the other hand, they can pull over or park the car not being a threat to other drivers on the road. People may also say, talking on the phone while driving is better than texting. However, if the person is distracted from talking on the phone other drivers can easily be injured or killed. Some people may believe, driving and talking does not involve them to look down as much. According to San Francisco’s cell phone bans, it has caused their accidental rates to decrease by 22% while drivers using hand held phones dropped 47 %( Wyle). This ban also showed that there was 700 fewer fatal accidents and a 75,000 to 100,000 decrease in collisions (Wyle). These studies imply that 70 to 80 lives were saved and an estimation of about 5,000 injuries was prevented (Wyle). Not talking on cell phones can cause fewer distractions to what other drivers are doing on the road. According to USA today, cell phone operation causes one in four or 25% of all car accidents. Another reason would be that, more people would be paying attention and following the driving safety laws and need little correction from police officials, and if talking on cellphones while driving was banned, there would be fewer car accidents.
