Throughout the novel Pride and Prejudice, relationships play major roles in every character 's life. Jane Austen presented two different types of relationships: relationships of security and relationships of love. Many women wanted to get married into a wealthy family in order to feel secure financially for the rest of their lives. Mrs. Bennet wished to marry her daughters off to wealth to ensure her family would never fear over who would take care of their financial needs. However, other women like Elizabeth solely wanted to marry someone she could love for the rest of her life, no matter the financial circumstances. Elizabeth learned what type of relationship she would want in future by looking at the couples and marriages that surrounded her. Elizabeth’s first sense of marriage came from how she saw her parents interact her whole life. The Bennet parents set an example showing not all marriages revolve around love and agreeance. Mr. Bennet made it very obvious that he wished to avoid his wife by staying in his library majority of his day. He found Mrs. Bennet’s attitude obnoxious and her personality annoying. After Bingley moved to London, Elizabeth saw Jane’s pain of missing someone she loved. Although Jane reserved her brokenheartedness, she could not hide her distraught emotions from Elizabeth. Lizzy talked Jane into staying with her aunt, Mrs. Gardiner, in London for a while with hopes of running into Bingley. However, Jane spoke only to Miss. Bingley and Mrs. Hurst, since Miss. Bingley would not allow Jane to see Mr. Bingley. After Jane’s visit to London Darcy felt guilty for pushing the two apart and decided to bring Bingley back to Jane.
