In the post-colonial era, United States of the America is currently the only regime that has enough influence to dominate the globe. Many people come to America to look for a better life or seek refugee from their home country, this is their version of American dream. However, their second generation have a different point of view of how do they perceive their idea of the American dream. In the short story “Two Kinds” by Amy Tan, the symbol of the different versions of American dream were portrayed by the narrative June and her mother, from the influence of the media to the mother, and the daughter’s perspective of the American dream to the American dream itself in the post-colonial era. American dream, it is a story that has been selling to the world generation past generation. It represents a second chance and unlimited opportunity, it also attract countless of immigrants choose America as their new homeland. As part of the western world, when the imperialism comes to the end, America successfully takes the wheel of the leader of the world. However, the legacy past on, even though the imperial power fallen, the world become a more diverse environment, the text, the media, the entertainment are still dominate by western world; the history that being taught around the world are still surrounding the history of Europe, the world are still reading Wall Street Journal, Hollywood movies are still sitting on the number one box office, the world has not changed much from the colonial era. …show more content…
