Tv Show Women

I think we all know the difference between a Tv show and real life, although what happens when real life and a Tv show reflect social standards what then? The point I’m trying to make is that women in Tv shows seem to have the same amount of power as they usually are portrayed as in real life. We can see this in many criminal drama shows, like the Show NCIS. Some character’s we’ll look at from the show are Kate played by Sasha Alexander who is a normal white female that was once a secret service agent, Then we have Ziva David played by Cote de Pablo the character being an Israeli woman and former MOSSAD agent, and Jenny Shepherd who was played by Lauren Holly she was a normal NCIS agent that then earned her a position of power then becoming …show more content…

With this going on we now also see the introduction of two new female members enter in one being Gibbs old partner, Jenny Shepherd as the new director of NCIS. As the old director is taking a new position in homeland security, which shock’s Gibbs with having a new chain of command. This would be an example of putting a woman in a different position of power that what many normal women in cop drama’s aren’t put in. When we see Tony’s reaction from Gibbs giving him the information that Jenny is the new director of NCIS he is honestly a little surprised in hearing this. And it make me think that Tony has never worked under a female boss as usually many males would be cast in this position of power. We also see another character being introduced in killing Ari part 2, the independent agent from MOSSAD Ziva David who is more than she appears. Although when she is introduced with meeting Tony, and the talk of his ‘fantasies,’ but also her teasing him for it, it becomes clear that Ziva would later become Tony’s partner. When we look we do start to see a bit more of Ziva’s character, like when she asks Gibbs to not Kill Ari aswadi as he is a MOSSAD agent and believes that her half brother did not kill Kate this becomes a point of conflict for Ziva, and Gibbs who believe’s that Ari did. We must also look at one of the scene's that …show more content…

When we see this the scene Mike franks was looking at Jenny’s ass, and Jenny asked, “can you stop looking at my ass,” the response from Mike franks was, “not really much to look at here.” The reason I put this quote in was to show that still many female roles in crime drama’s are still portrayed as, “The doing of gender by television crime fighters tends to reinforce the gendered norms of males in charge and women as something else,” ( Davidson, ). Although we do start see more of a gender profiling from this example, there is still a change in the status quo between Jenny being the director of NCIS, and Gibbs with his stubborn position. This balance is tested quite a few times over the season’s as Jenny and gibbs have come into conflict about who’s in charge and the amount of power both of them hold. This is demonstrated in the show when Jenny does join gibbs on a late night to try to find
