When thinking of legends in the Hip-Hop industry, one of the first names that come to mind is Tupac Shakur. Tupac Shakur was born in June 16, 1971, and was shot in September 13, 1996. He grew up in the ghettos of New York and slowly worked his way up to fame and success. Tupac’s music and life has a huge impact on today’s society even after 17 years. Throughout Michael Eric Dyson’s, Holler If You Hear Me: Searching for Tupac Shakur, the biography on Tupac Shakur shows how Tupac was a rapper that differentiated from the other stereotypical rappers, especially through his influential music, his fearlessness to be his true self and displaying a great amount of respect towards women.
Primarily, Tupac’s music was very influential to people because he wasn’t like your average rapper that’s lyrics spoke about violence, money and girls. Although he did grow up in the ghetto and promoted “thug life” in his music and in interviews, Tupac Shakur was unique in many different ways. In Tupac’s meaningful song, “Keep Your Head Up” the lyrics in the chorus state, “Keep ya head up, oooo child things are gonna get easier ooooo child things are gonna get brighter.” (Shakur) It shows how Tupac wanted people, especially teens, who are going through struggles in their life to ensure them that things will get better soon and to feel comforted by the lyrics. People felt as though Tupac understood their suffering and his music inspired others to reach for their dreams no matter how big they were. Another example that shows how Tupac’s music was a big influence on people is when one of Tupac’s friend and rapper, Big Tray Dee states in an interview, “But [his songs] wound up in my head because they would grow on me, and I would see where he was coming fro...

In Michael Eric Dyson’s, Holler If You Hear Me: Searching for Tupac Shakur, his biography on Tupac Shakur explains how Tupac wasn’t like every rapper and didn’t fit in into all the rapper’s stereotypes, Dyson shows this through Tupac’s influential music, fearless of showing his true self and giving a great amount of respect towards women. Firstly, Tupac’s music made people feel inspired to conquer their goals and his lyrics really connected to other’s lives. Also, Tupac stayed to his true self and never acted like someone he wasn’t. Finally, Tupac was very different from other rappers because he gave a great deal of respect and love towards women. Tupac Shakur will be remembered and loved by the years; he has served and will serve as a role model for younger kids growing up today.
