Vulnerable population is defined as a group of people that have a disadvantage in society like the homeless and disabled. The vulnerability of these groups are shown through age, sex, race, and other factors but those being the main factors. It may also include people that don’t have a way to access health care service. To access health care includes a lot to do with poverty and the lack of education. Education is very important because patients need to be educated about signs and symptoms of infectious disease. It is important to know about infectious diseases because patients might need report any signs or symptoms to a doctor. According to the Common Infectious Diseases Worldwide, Tuberculosis, Malaria, and AIDS are approximately half of all deaths caused by infectious diseases each year. Tuberculosis is becoming this global threat for the world and that has a lot to do with the social inequality it has on some people. Dr. Robert Koch announced the discovery of Mycobacterium tuberculosis, the bacteria that cause tuberculosis on March 24, 1882. Tuberculosis is an infectious disease that can effect a lot of peoples body part but mostly affects the lungs. As Medical News Today posted in 2012, 1.3 million people died from tuberculosis because it is contagious nature, therefore, making tuberculosis a major concern for the world. It is scary to look at all the celebrities that had money and were not in a vulnerable place compared to all the other people that have died from tuberculous. Eleanor Roosevelt, Andrew Jackson, all the way to Franz Kafka, these people were in a situation that they could fight for there infectious disease compared to other people that only have a disadvantage like the homeless. There is a lot that come with having tuberculosis and it can get expensive at times. As the American Lung Association stated “You must finish your medicine and take the drugs exactly as prescribed. If you stop taking the drugs too soon you can become sick again and potentially spread the disease to others around you. If you do not take the drugs correctly, the TB germs that are still alive can become resistant to the drugs.” (Living With Tuberculosis 1) Some individuals that don’t have that advantage are going to die.
