The Triangle Factory fire happened on March 25, 1911 and was responsible for the deaths of 146 employees. The fire happened during a time when many labor unions were being formed to fight for higher wages, shorter workdays, and safer work conditions. The Triangle Factory fire caused a change in America by making aware the dangers of current working conditions, creating investigating commissions, and lead to different work practices in future factories. One of the many things labor unionists wanted was safer working conditions. The current working conditions were crowded and not suitable for the workers. Had there been safer conditions in place many lives taken from the fire could have been saved. The factory building wasn’t a building meant for factories, it was a loft. The floors that the women were working on were the top three floors. It was known that the fire fighter’s water hoses would not be able to spray water that high in the event of a fire but the employers decided “there was really no danger, or that, if there were, one could always ‘take a chance on it.’”1 One of the...
