In Sydney Pollack’s movie, Tootsie, a man dresses up as a woman and falls in love with a girl while two other men fall in love with him. The climactic scene towards the end where Michael reveals he is a man is full of cuts, moves that go from one shot to the next. In the scene the camera jumps around between Michael giving his speech, the cameramen frantically moving to get the right angle, the director freaking out trying telling the cameras where to move, and the other actors reacting to his speech. A jump cut, a cut from one scene to the next when the time and place has changed in the next scene, is used when Dorothy is going with Julie to her Dad’s farm. The first clip has them on the train heading to farm in the mid afternoon and then the film jumps to the truck arriving on the farm in the evening. The movie also uses a montage, a collection of shots edited together to create a specific look and feel, to show Dorothy’s photoshoots and magazine covers she appears on. They show glimpses of her posing for different photoshoots, one in a red dress, one in a cowboy costume, one with a male model, and then they show the magazine or article with the photo on it. This helps to show how popular Dorothy is, and helps pass time in the movie to jump to the next important
During the Talladega 500, Cal Naughton Jr., Ricky Bobby's former best friend, pulled ahead of Ricky, allowing him to slingshot around his car and pass Jean Girard. Though Cal and Girard were teammates at Dennit Racing, Cal disregarded this and jeopardized his team's success to aid Ricky in the movie Talledega Nights: The Ballad of Ricky Bobby. This moment was crucial to Ricky, he having fallen from grace, going from NASCAR's top driver to being let go by Dennit Racing. The love Cal exhibited was a selfless form of love that was centered entirely around Ricky's happiness, not his own. Because of this selflessness, Cal compromised his own agenda, winning for Dennit, and disregarded personal consequence in hopes that Ricky would win the race. If you truly love someone as Cal loved Ricky, you must sometimes compromise your own interests for their benefit.
The Goonies are a group of friends living in a village. Lee Daniel’s Precious is a movie centered around Precious Jones, a 16-year-old overweight black girl living in Harlem, New York. The movie begins when she is in public school pregnant with her second child by her father. Because Precious is pregnant, the principle recommends an alternative school for her. At home, Precious is a servant to her mother, Mary, who is physically, emotionally, verbally, and sexually abusing her. Mary constantly tells Precious that she is not good enough and that no one will ever want her. At times of distress, Precious tends to dissociate and fantasize about another life where she is a blonde white girl. She wants to be famous and loved by all. Precious arrives at the alternative school hardly knowing how to read or write. She gets placed in a class of girls with a dedicated teacher, Ms. Rain. The movies from this genre are mostly debunkers portraying problems like drug abuse, racial discrimination with blacks, gang rapes, street gangs, hip hop music, Maras, shattered familial problems, illegal immigration, poverty and etc. Most of the films from this genre, typically have a very similar story line like “An urban Black youth facing problems either with poverty or immediate danger in the neighborhood.” This quality present in any movie depicts Hood Films.
Poor Kids is a documentary that highlights a major issue the United States is suffering from. This issue is known as poverty, more specifically, childhood poverty. This documentary views the world through the eyes of children that are subjected to lives of poverty due to the poor financial state that their parents are in. Life is very rough for these children and they must live their everyday lives with little to none of the luxuries most people take for granted. Poor Kids sheds light on the painful fact that there are children that starve every day in the United States.

Miss. Evers Boys is a movie based on the real life study called “The Tuskegee Study” that took place in Macon County, Alabama, where 400 black men who had syphilis and 200 black men without this disease participated on this study without knowing the terrible truth behind it. Also the participants were poor and uneducated sharecropper who fell for Miss. Evers persuasions and rewards that doctors were offering to participants. The main results that doctors were trying to obtain from this experiment was to gain information about how African Americans men’s bodies reacted to syphilis. During the 1930’s, society believed that black men were inferior to white men, so diseases were supposed to affect differently black men. This study in particular, the participants were not informed about the capacity that this disease could damage their human system and they were not viewed as a human being and they were used as lab rat. Furthermore, one of the doctors who were involved in this experiment Dr. Raymond Vonderlehr used the term “necropsy” that is an autopsy performed on animals when speaking about the participants of this experiment (Mananda R-G, 2012).
The jump cuts guide the viewer through the various times and places of the story’s plot in a way that reflects the instability of Ree’s life. When Ree is approached by her cousin to go with her to find her father’s corpse, both women are on Ree’s front porch; however, as soon as the dialogue ends, the film utilizes the jump cut to show a woman pushing open a gate in an area that is presumably hours away from the porch where the women stood moments before. As the scene widens, the viewer is able to see that Ree and her cousin accompany this woman. There is no need for an explanation for how the two women got to the gate because the viewer intrinsically knows that Ree is leaving with the women to find where her father is buried. The jump cut serves to accelerate the time it takes in the world of the film.
In the documentary “Fed Up,” sugar is responsible for Americas rising obesity rate, which is happening even with the great stress that is set on exercise and portion control for those who are overweight. Fed Up is a film directed by Stephanie Soechtig, with Executive Producers Katie Couric and Laurie David. The filmmaker’s intent is mainly to inform people of the dangers of too much sugar, but it also talks about the fat’s in our diets and the food corporation shadiness. The filmmaker wants to educate the country on the effects of a poor diet and to open eyes to the obesity catastrophe in the United States. The main debate used is that sugar is the direct matter of obesity. Overall, I don’t believe the filmmaker’s debate was successful.

Father says on the other side of the water people are afraid of the water like a bunch of babies. Hushpuppy lives with her father in tree houses. Hushpuppy and her father has a strange but strong relationship, their bond is different because he’s shows her love by teaching her to catch fish, letting her win arm wrestling, telling her she’s the man as well as the king. The father is teaching hushpuppy to be touch. A series of catastrophes is happening in the segregate town and her father Wink the father is the leader of the town everyone is looking for wink to save the day but for hushpuppy it seems the whole town is unraveling.
When the film begins on the farm in Kansas, the scene is shot in black and white, creating a sepia tone of colour to represent the country dust in the air adding to the effect of the ordinary unsaturated colour of the Kansas landscape. In contrast to the Kansas setting, lighting is profoundly used by the director to enhance the overall emotions of the film. Fleming uses a combination of the set, lighting techniques, and colour to create a magical place with very bright colours and deep focus lens to bring the land of Oz to life. In the scene where Dorothy enters Oz, the lighting is positioned between Dorothy and the foreground plants. The director uses the three point lighting technique so both Dorothy and the colour plants are highlighted but no shadows visible. This shot was done with a background of the black and white house behind Dorothy. The Land of Oz is filled with beautiful colours to create the illusion of a happy world that enhances the feel of fantasy. The allusion of contrasts between the real world and the land of Oz support the central theme there’s no place like home. In this way, the director enhances the picture of the film by the use of colour to reflect a mood experienced by the character in the different places. The film Babies is a film that follows four babies from San Francisco, Tokyo, Mongolia, and Namibia through their first year of life. The film has no talking or narrative. In many scenes, you don’t even see adults. This helps you get to see a baby’s perspective on the world. This movie showed how different cultures are when it comes to raising children.
