In the town of Maycomb, the residents have a very small intolerance for other people that they are not familiar with. There are many commonalities between people who accept others, such as Atticus and Scout. Atticus has discussed with Scout to put yourself in their skin and understand how they feel. So one commonality they have is they put themselves in your place and judge how you live and what decisions you will make. Another commonality is a strong sense of justice between people who accept others and the people accept others not because of their skin but for their morals. Also People who hate others make judgements too fast and are persuaded by other people in the community. Harper Lee shows in the novel "To Kill a Mockingbird," the building up of a strong intolerance of racial discrimination in the residents of Maycomb highlighting the separation of Maycomb, Resulting in a commonality of people that accept or hate others.
Acceptance from others is a hard thing to earn because people, who do not accept do not know how the other person truly is. To truly understand a person is to put yourself in their position. In one Maycomb school, Scout is having a difficult time in school. To make it worse Walter Cunningham got Scout in to trouble, which made her angry so she assaulted him. However Jem brings him home for dinner and Scout talks with Atticus about getting along with other people. “-until you climb into his skin and walk around in it.”(Lee 30). Atticus has discussed with Scout about accepting others and had told her that you cannot understand someone, "until you climb into his skin and walk around in it."(Lee 30). Harper Lee shows the building up of a strong intolerance of racial discrimination in the residents of Maycomb highlighting the separation of Maycomb in to two groups, Resulting in a commonality of people that accept or hate others. People that accept others, put themselves in the skin of others, and are able to figure out how they feel how about certain situations. A strong sense of justice is a good thing to have because it allows you to judge people not based on outside factors but on their morals. Also people often misjudge others and are easily persuaded by others because they want to fit in or are peer pressured. People often hate others because they do not know their true side.
