Have you ever wonder what would happen if your money wasn't worth anything? Will I never experience this ,but its millions of people have back in the day it was called the great depression. In the novel to kill a mockingbird by harper lee we follow the Finch childrens as they live through the great depression.the great depression was a terrible part of history that inspired the novel to kill a mockingbird because in the book everyone was poor and they didn't have money to buy thing they used food and other stuff as currency.

one of the major effects that impact the people lives was 6000 Banks were closed. the reason was 9 million saving accounts had vanished. From my research it said when the accounts vanished, and all the people did not have anything .not too long after that the 85000 businesses went bankrupt and were closed. when all the jobs close the people there do not have any money to pay bills so everyone became homeless. there were two million people homeless people living on the streets when no food shelter and nowhere to go. it was so bad that it was long lines of man and kids trying to get food from soup kitchens and Stands on the streets. it became so bad people couldn't take anymore to the point They thought it was the best thing to just kill themselves since they had no money or nowhere to go. t the Great Depression was really the Great Depression it really put everyone in the funk that he became very well known to everyone that this day was the Great …show more content…
to the citizens of the US they felt like the president didn't do that much for them. Herbert Hoover really did not do anything for the economy and was very useless to the people. he had the tariff so what happened with the World Trade has stopped. one thing the Hoover did was and I quote he hiked taxes as a part of a plan to stabilize the banks by balancing the Federal budget providing confidence for foreign creditors, and to stop them from buying American Gold. this is important because it shows what the world would do if there was no money. to me I understand of why everyone was homeless but to me that's no reason for you to kill yourself over it.In 1933 the government came up with a new way to stop the Great Depression it was called the New Deal. New Deal was made by the Congress and it was used to to end the Great Depression to prevent future depression .”It was three things that the New Deal didn't gave relief that meant that he gave money to the homeless people. The great depression was a very sad and hard time. This was a time where people had little money, no available jobs and just had a hard time with everything. Many people had nd any way to make money whether it was cutting kid’s hair in neighborhood, picking fruit, selling iron cords house to house or even painting a house for 5 dollars. Even though this was a very hard time some people still had hope that things would get better. This was a really bad time until Franklin Roosevelt who was for the government supporting the Americans and not the other way around became president.
The Great Depression is a an era when the US economy was at its lowest. It is after the Roaring 20s. The depression was caused mainly because of the crash of the stock market in 1929 and the government’s failed attempts to help the people. Many people’s belongings are bought with credit so they lost all their money and most of their things when the bank system failed. Others lost their jobs and many men left their families because they felt ashamed that they can’t support their family. The social fabric of the Great Depression changed greatly from the previous era. The changes in the social, the political, and the economic part of the US are part of the change in the social fabric.
Because of the plague known as the Great Depression, Herbert Hoover is often seen as one of the worst presidents in American history. He enacted policies such as the Hawley-Smoot Tariff that flushed America deeper into the depression. Hoover didn't understand that to solve a crisis such as a depression, he needed to interact directly with the people by using programs such as social security and welfare. Instead, Hoover had the idea that if he were to let the depression run its course, it would eventually end. The Great Depression, beginning in the last few months of 1929, impacted the vast majority of people nationwide and worldwide. With millions of Americans unemployed and many in danger of losing their homes, they could no longer support their families. Children, if they were lucky, wore torn up ragged clothing to school and those who were not lucky remained without clothes. The food supply was scarce, and bread was the most that families could afford. Households would receive very limited rations of food, or small amounts of money to buy food.
The Great Depression was a period in United States history when business was poor and many people were out of work. The beginning of the Great Depression in the United States was associated with the stock market crash on October 29, 1929, known as Black Tuesday. Thousands of investors lost large amounts of money and many were wiped out, lost everything. Banks, stores, and factories were closed and left millions of Americans jobless and homeless (Baughman 82).
The Stock Market Crash of 1929 caused the Great Depression, allowing Herbert Hoover and Franklin D. Roosevelt to take some action as president. Hoover however did much less than FDR. Roosevelt was fully prepared for action as soon as he took office unlike Herbert Hoover, who has been said to be a “do-nothing” president. Luckily with Roosevelt’s efforts, his Bank Holiday, and the New Deal the U.S. was taken out of the depression and the federal government became much more involved in people’s everyday economic and social lives.

October 29th, 1929 marked the beginning of the Great Depression, a depression that forever changed the United States of America. The Stock Market collapse was unavoidable considering the lavish life style of the 1920’s. Some of the ominous signs leading up to the crash was that there was a high unemployment rate, automobile sales were down, and many farms were failing. Consumerism played a key role in the Stock Market Crash of 1929 because Americans speculated on the stocks hoping they would grow in their favor. They would invest in these stocks at a low rate which gave them a false sense of wealth causing them to invest in even more stocks at the same low rate. When they purchased these stocks at this low rate they never made enough money to pay it all back, therefore contributing to the crash of 1929. Also contributing to the crash was the over production of consumer goods. When companies began to mass produce goods they did not not need as many workers so they fired them. Even though there was an abundance of goods mass produced and at a cheap price because of that, so many people now had no jobs so the goods were not being purchased. Even though, from 1920 to 1929, consumerism and overproduction partially caused the Great Depression, the unequal distribution of wealth and income was the most significant catalyst.

The Great Depression was the deepest and longest-lasting economic downfall in the history of the United States. No event has yet to rival The Great Depression to the present day, although we have had recessions in the past, and some economic panics, fears. Thankfully, the United States of America has had its share of experiences from the foundation of this country and throughout its growth, many economic crises have occurred. In the United States, the Great Depression began soon after the stock market crash of October 1929, which sent Wall Street into a panic and wiped out millions of investors ("The Great Depression."). In turn, from this single tragic event, numerous amounts of chain reactions occurred.
When the stock market started failing, many factories closed production of all types of goods. Businesses and banks started closing down and farmers fell into bankruptcy. Many people lose everything, their jobs, their savings, and their homes. More than thirteen million people are unemployed. The Great Depression caused major political changes.
After people started buying too many new things, a crash happened. There were many reasons why this happened. For example, people viewed the stock market as a short term investment instead as a large one. The boom was enormous and the crash itself was huge. The Great Depression lasted in the 1920s and was the biggest one in Americas history. The crash could have been prevented if consumers did not purchase too much.
