The quote, “All you need in this life is ignorance and confidence, and then success is sure” (Twain) means that by being able to disregard the stupid and worthless things that may arise in life, and grasp the resourceful things, it is not just a skill but rather an act approaching success. I think what Twain is saying is that the people who are dragging you behind in life are the ones who don’t deserve any consideration
The quote by Twain can also be interpreted differently. I thought it meant like if you’re ignorant to the possibilities of failure and you’re confident in your abilities; you’re guaranteed to succeed in life. So if you know that you can fail and you are confident anyways you can succeed. Many of our innovations that we have came from people that didn't know they could do something, but they didn’t care and believed they could. For example, without Larry Page and Sergey Brin we wouldn’t have google. We all know that it didn’t just take a couple of hours to create google. Larry and Sergey failed several times in the process of making google; which is now a multi billion dollar business.

The more confidence you have the more likely you will be able to learn. Anyone with confidence will succeed if they are open minded. Ignorance is basically being open minded (like open to learn). For example, employers like to hire people who are lacking knowledge of the skills required for the job. It makes it easier to train them because they are open minded, ready to learn, and they aren’t not set in their previous employers ways of doing things. If they were to hire someone who had already had some experience; they might think they know everything because they have already worked for a different employer that may have been looking for different skill
Twain attempts to reveal how people in the society blindly fall on the traps of the con men and hucksters without thinking critically. In other words, people tend to take things as they are without being skeptical of the event or the idea and lead them to ultimate downfall. According to Twain, the consequences of not thinking critically to oneself are depicted by failure to succeed in the future.
People believe that they are “wise” when they “know” something. A common member of society most often feels that knowledge enables people to feel powerful and misknowledge shows a certain weakness. Thurman explained, “Being right means that the world affirms us in what we think we know. ‘Knowing’ something is a way of controlling it, being able to put it in its proper place in relation to us so that we can use it effectively… So, knowledge is power, in the sense that it empowers us to act successfully. Misknowledge… is weakness, in the sense that our action may fail in their aim, backfire, or have unintended consequences. Knowledge is security, in that we know our vulnerabilities and can avoid harm. Misknowledge is danger, in that we don 't know what others might do to us or what traps may await us. We therefore feel powerful and secure when were right, weak and vulnerable when were wrong” (Thurman 446). Thurman took a distinctive approach and taught that not knowing meant obtaining freedom and achieving wisdom. Thurman taught, “… the Buddha discovered that this most certain knowledge of the ‘self’ is actually ‘misknowledge’—a fundamental misunderstanding, a delusion. And what 's more, he realized that this discovery was the key to liberation, the gateway to enlightenment” (Thurman 447). From a social standpoint, “wisdom” allows people to obtain a certain knowledge of themselves and in this way, acquire freedom. After reading Failure is Not an Option by Nathan Wallace, we ponder whether failure is beneficial or not. However, after reading the passage, we stumble upon a quote where Wallace says “Failure is always an option. Failure can lead to great learning and progress when a specific failure is analyzed through the lens of a growth mindset.”
Albert Einstein once said “A little knowledge is a dangerous thing. So is a lot.” Knowledge can be good because it makes one successful. Then, it can also be very bad such as a criminal being too smart for the police, he or she can keep committing crime. Too much knowledge is dangerous because it may harm many, which means that many die or get scarred for life because of one simple guy with an excess of knowledge.
Many still believe that Thomas Edison invented the light bulb, or that eating an hour before going swimming can cause cramps. To me, however, ignorance is more than just a lack of knowledge. Ignorance is aiding and abetting one’s naive thoughts. This promotion of these mindless thoughts causes us to become ignorant. Society indorses this oxymoron by shoving confirmative mindsets down our throats at birth.
Ignorance is the lack of knowledge or knowing. Being ignorant is being in denial, dumb, oblivious. Choosing to only learn about a certain part of something but not the rest. Being ignorant is to lack the knowledge of something. Ignorance is everywhere.
The United States was built on the foundation of freedom. This freedom included the right to express one’s views without prosecution or limitation. This paved the way for the freedom to learn and pursue educational achievements. However, there are times when learning becomes halted in the interest of “appropriateness.” This is in reference to censorship. Censorship, by definition, is “the forbidding, blocking, limiting, or obstructing access to information for whatever reason.”(p248)1 This form of interference can prevent awareness and stint intellectual growth. Therefore, censorship should be used sparingly in education without political or religious motivation because the abuse of censorship negatively affects our education as a whole.
Under these circumstances, the old definition may claim these children as ignorant. Nevertheless, ignorance is not synonymous with being naive. Children are more efficient and enthusiastic about learning than any adult. This ability to learn rapidly is all thanks in part to their prefrontal cortex, which “gives them the ability to be flexible and inventive. Kids have minds that are designed to learn, and adults have minds designed to perform” (Muftau).
One reason why Emerson’s quote illustrates a valid idea is that taking risks can lead to success. Often, taking a risk is just the jump one needs to reach his or her goal. Many successful individuals have followed this concept to success, such as the founder of the radio website Pandora, Tim Westergreen. As stated by Forbes.com, when Westergreen’s company was just starting up, it suddenly ran short on money. At the risk of falling even further into debt, Westergreen took a risk to defer the salaries of his employees. Nonetheless, Pandora was able to get back onto its feet, and has become a great success as one of the most popular music websites. Another example of an accomplishment that stemmed from taking risks is Christina McHale’s experience.
