The following topic is based upon my viewing of They Took Our Child: We Got Her Back, The Katie Romanek Story. I have viewed the story of the abduction of Katie Romanek and have seen the story of the young girl that survived from a child abduction. Here, I place the thoughts and opinions of the case that tie into what had happened to Katie Romanek. I will place a comparison of the differences of how the kidnapping was handled then and how it could possibly be handled in today's standards. Amber alerts have become a common problem in the US and it was no different back in 1994. The handling of the situation, however, was a different matter. In 1994, the alerts for a child abduction were typically made on the news and information is given there. Today's standards are different. If an Amber alert were to occur today, people would receive a quick information via text on their smart phones, which usually had a name of the child, the kidnapper, and description of the vehicle if known. There are multiple times that I recall of receiving an Amber alert on my phone and child was found fairly quickly. If the Romanek kidnapping were to happen today, it is possible that she could have been found a lot quicker than in 1994. …show more content…

I have always viewed Lodi as one of the nicer places in San Joaquin County, minus a few places. Upon viewing the video, I noticed that Katie was in one of the nicer places of Lodi at the time. Here, the issue holds that the parents believed that they were in a nice neighborhood and that it is acceptable to leave a 16 year old girl to watch her 12 year sister. I am not placing the blame on the parents for this matter. The truth of the matter is that they should not expect it to happen, but expect the potential for the matter to happen.
