Xbox Most people one way or another have heard of the console called Xbox. Xbox was a gaming console created by Microsoft in November 15 2001. In 1998 the people at Microsoft were thinking about developing their own gaming console. It originally was going to be called the DirectX Box, but this was changed to Xbox later. It was going to be the first console to be built with the power of a PC but in the flexibility of a console. 2 years later at a game developers conference Bill Gates ( the founder of Microsoft ) announced they would go public with their console. Xbox is still around today making consoles. Microsoft's first console was the original Xbox. On the consoles first birthday they released Xbox live, this allows you to play online with other people. 4 years later Microsoft released their new console called the Xbox 360. “This resulted in sellouts in every market except Japan. By the end of the year more than 1.5 million consoles were shipped” ( Digital Trends, The History Of Xbox) Next was the Xbox one, this was released November 22 2013. The original Xbox costed $299 but was later cut down too $199. The Xbox was discontinued in North America in 2009. In the end over 24 million units were sold. The Xbox 360 started out costing $399 then it dropped down too $299.
