His writing style is flexible and liberal, and can be described as romantic, imaginative and engaging, and varies depending on the theme of the novel. Sparks was inspired by his wife’s grandparents, who spent sixty years together, and had a beautiful, yet rare, relationship that withstood the test of time and circumstances. Sparks believes that “true love exists and that there’s evidence of it every day.” (Sparks). The Notebook is a tender story about the everlasting and enduring power of true love between teenagers Noah and Allie, who forge an intense summer romance, and after years of separation caused by class differences find themselves reunited. After a fourteen year separation, Allie returns to visit Noah to determine what it was they shared and why it had such a lasting impact. Allie must make a decision between Lon, the man she promised to marry, and Noah the man she has always loved. As she decides, she thinks to herself, “She wanted something else, something different, something more. Passion and romance, perhaps, or maybe a quiet conversation in candlelit rooms, or perhaps something as simple as not being second.” The theme of love conquers all is the focus as Noah tries to regain Allie’s love and Allie struggles with telling Noah that she’s engaged to another man, yet still is in love with him. The diverse alternation of point of views also provides the story an effective way to reach out to readers and be felt. The characterisation is effectively done and applied as Sam, Grace, and the other supporting characters play individual, crucial roles in the course of the story. All the elements of a typical young adult novel, consisting of a gap-filled relationship between children and parents, emotion-driven teenagers, and a unique conflict that makes the book distinct from fellow novels, combined with the dangerous consequences of the challenges the couple encounter, make the book different from all other of the same genre. The plot unfolds slowly giving readers enough time to adjust and anticipate the heavy conflict when it arises. It has gotten us so hooked but the only thing we could possibly dislike about it was the slow pace of plot. In On Writing’s section titled “On Writing,” Stephen King iterates multiple times, his true feelings for writing by telling his story. The central point that he uses to say that writing is his passion and what he truly feels joy in is how he writes. King at one point says, “When I am writing, it is all the playground…”(King 149), this is the best example of how he translates his feelings. But, this way of thinking is really just a simple way to answer the question. After more careful thought, I realized that style is actually quite the opposite of personal and original. The beginning of this book puzzles the reader. It doesn't clearly state the setting and plot in the first chapter; it almost leaves the mood open to how the reader interprets it. In my opinion, this novel was a very romantic, and happy love story and overall an wonderful novel. I loved all the plot twists throughout the story.
