In chapters 11-20, Arthur Dimmesdale changed drastically. He gas dealt with more guilt and suffering than i could bear. By chapter 11 there is already a suspicion that Dimmesdale may be the father of Pearl, but in this chapter it is finally revealed. This being said, it also uncovers many things that he does to cope with this dark secret. He too has a mark like Hester's on his chest, however the story has yet to identify this mark. The pain Dimmesdale feels causes him to clutch his hand over his heart repeatedly throughout the novel. Dimmesdale also tortures himself. He whips himself, and doesn't eat or sleep for days at a time. The source of Dimmesdale's sudden shame is Hester coming up with ideas for them to flee from the town and leave
