Does someone have to have superpowers to be brave? Although they would be helpful, superpowers have nothing to do with bravery. Bravery can just be standing up to the playground bully that’s picking on a little kid. Anyone that steps up, puts themselves in possible danger, and/ or doing something that others can’t or won’t do are considered brave things to do. In the book The Hobbit bravery is one of the main themes throughout the whole book; by Bard, Thorin, and Bilbo. Bilbo as a quiet, organized hobbit that lived in The Shire until one day a wizard named Gandalf and 13 dwarves showed up at his door. They wanted him to go on an adventure to The Misty Mountains to reclaim the dwarves home at The Lonely Mountain from the dragon, Smaug. “ This is the Arkenstone of Thrain,” said Bilbo,”the Heart of the Mountain; and it is also the heart of Thorin. He values it above a river of gold. I give it to you. Helping people in life or death situations or stepping up even if it’s not necessary to do, are two examples of being brave. Kindness, compassion, cleverness, and many more traits are the makeup of being a brave person. “‘I knew I had to take the blows to save my partner’s life,’ Dobis said.’ I knew in my mind I was going to be able to handle it. I knew that I had to protect her.’”(Baldas 1) He didn’t fear being hurt, he just wanted to make sure his partner was safe from the woman with the blade.
