The Suicide Prevention Program will be designed to fit for the students who attend Sul Ross State University, in which the age ranges between 18 years to 22 years old. During this time for majority of students, is when they become homesick and start to discover themselves throughout their college years. Students may become overloaded by school work, school problems, friend problems, and family problems; in which they will not know how to handle on their own without their dependency from their parents. If their load becomes too much to handle for that one individual, they begin to travel down the path of suicide. The main point of this article is that they want to people to be more aware of how to help someone, and it is also full of information. Teens have come to a point in life believing there is no escape, no matter how bad the problem. Teens struggling with depression fail to understand what is really happening, and what depression could be leading to. Suicide is now the third leading cause of death for 15 - 24 year olds in the United States. Causes leading to suicide could be, depression, bullying, or even just feeling out of place. We can all help to prevent suicide. Educate yourself and others, motivate to make a change, stop bullying, and openly talk about the problem. Simply by doing things like this you could start a revolution and save millions of lives.

There have been many instances of suicide that have occurred in the past years at universities across the country, and since it is such a sensitive subject, there have not been nearly enough coverage as this topic deserves, considering this issue does not seem to be going away. When collecting data about suicide statistics, the age range is broken down as people ages 15-24, which spans most developmental years. Within this bracket are college-age students and this age-group has by far the most troubling statistics around it.
Suicide and the Predictions of Suicide In the first paper I read about hopelessness and eventual suicide, four authors studied 207 hospitalized patients with suicidal ideation. There was a follow up period of 5-10 years when these patients were systematically checked up on to see their status. Fourteen eventually completed suicide within the follow up period. In the study the researchers used the Beck Depression Inventory, the Hopelessness Scale, and the Scale of Suicidal Ideation.
It is expected that public school nurses will be successful in their interventions, and students will sign up for counseling sessions and group meetings. In addition, the desired outcome is that patients in clinics and other health care settings will be willing to fill out questioners and acquire about the suicide prevention therapies. The American Foundation of Suicide Prevention (AFSP) is a non-profit organization that acknowledges suicide and mental health problems that are part of our society. By understanding this support can go to those in need of education and those who are at risk. Suicide affects a tremendous amount of people those who suffer from depression and their love ones, but with proper education and treatment it can prevent many from committing suicide. In fact according to Mental Health Business Week “Each year in the United States, suicide claims over 40,000 lives - more than war, murder, and natural disasters combined…Suicide is not just a faceless health issue for our society - it affects real people” (American Foundation for Suicide Prevention 60). Therefore organizations like The American Foundation for Suicide Prevention were established to assist. The AFSP was founded in 1987, which is one of the leaders in fighting against suicide by offering research, education, and supports to those individuals and their families that are affected by suicide.
Individuals in society experience many changes that can make them feel overwhelm or feel accepted by their friends, family members and the rest of society. But there is times when people feel that they do not fit or feel welcome in their social group. Many people face their difficulties and achieve success others are do not have such luck. Suicide is the third leading cause of death for 15 to 24 year olds, and the sixth leading cause for 5 to 14 year olds. Suicide accounts for twelve percent of the mortality in the adolescent and young adult group. Young males are more common than young woman suicides. These are only children who followed through with the suicide. For every successful suicide there are fifty to one hundred adolescent suicide attempts. In other words, more than five percent of all teenagers tried to commit suicide, and the number is still rising. It is scary to think that four percent of high school students have made a suicide attempt within the previous twelve months. In a small safe town like Avon, in the Avon High School where you and I practically live, you can see the faces of 22 students that have tried to commit suicide. That is enough to fill a classroom.
