Poverty has been known to be a problem all around America. Ronald Reagan's famous quote “We fought a war against poverty and poverty one” implies that poverty has been a crisis for decades. In the article “The State Of Poverty” the author Peter Edelman, was a famous lawyer and policy maker. he was interested in the rate and how poverty can be treated. Within poverty there are two main problems. The two main problems is the widespread of low income and the other contains the people with no jobs. In the research questions they were trying to answer was how can America overcome poverty, and what are the differences between temporary/ persistent poverty and what were the actions made against poverty. The other participants involved are people who live paycheck to paycheck. The description of the participants were african American- specifically single mothers, and caucasian Americans with low/no income or with no jobs.Particpants were also edelery and disabled. The researchers acted on supplemental security income and raised enough money to provide income Most of the participants are from the Mississippi Delta or on Indian Reservations, in which these places are ‘’home to minorities”(pg.128). The use of research methods are used to identify the strengths and weaknesses of this study. Likewise by relating with the standards of reports. The title of the study relates to the topic of the article introducing the key variable and also the qualities of interest and poverty. The title reflects what the research is about. In my opinion the abstract of this study is clear and concise giving a brief explanation about the topic. Being that I lived in Fayetteville, NC the rate of poverty was really high. Many people were out of work which no jobs and no jobs meant no income and the other people were on welfare or receiving some type of government assistance.
