Case Summary and Presenting Problems Anthony John "Tony" Soprano is a 39 year old Italian-American male who came to counseling after an “episode” at a family barbeque, during which he became dizzy and fainted. Tony was referred by his primary care physician after multiple non-conclusive lab results. Tony is married to his wife, Carmela, and has two children, Meadow and Anthony Junior (AJ). Tony is currently employed as a waste management consultant and co-owner of a couple businesses. Tony Soprano is the primary protagonist of the television series; The Sopranos, a fabricated series describing the lives of members of the Italian mafia (Wikipedia, n.d.). After the first attack, Tony stated that Carmela was not supportive and further, made the comment that if Tony didn’t change the way he was living his life he would burn in hell. Tony stated this caused him to feel neglected and depressed as well. Tony has a daughter, Meadow, who is going to be a senior in high school. Their relationship is stable, other than the usual father/daughter riffs. He also has a son, AJ, who Tony describes and lazy and troublesome. Tony stated that AJ is a lot like he was as a teen and this causes the two of them to butt heads on occasion. Tony also has a nephew-in-law, whom is also like a son to Tony. His name is Christopher, and Tony said that Christopher is at times the only person he fully trusts. Tony stated that Christopher often makes unwise decisions, which affect business and this causes a great deal of stress and worry for Tony as well. Tony’s father is dead, and his mother Olivia is not capable of caring for herself in her home anymore and assisted living is being considered.
