Skkkt..skkkkt...your ice skate blade grits across the ice. But what are you doing, figure skating? No it’s hockey! Did you know that the first hockey team was formed in 1877 and that hockey was originated in Windsor, Nova Scotia? Would you like to play ice hockey? Well, a famous NFL (national hockey league) player by the name Shae Weber said, “I’m definitely hoping to stay, just like anyone would. That’s the ultimate goal, but I’m just taking things one step at a time.” Shea Weber is currently an alternate captain for the Montreal Canadiens of the National Hockey League, and he is an NHL All-Star and a two-time Olympic gold medalist. Most people say hockey is boring, but it’s very challenging, fun, and a exciting way to stay active.

In hockey there are many rules. Here are some examples: Shooting the puck after the whistle, wearing “illegal” equipment, interfering with the goalkeeper, throwing your stick on the ice, hitting another player's stick, taking off your helmet, fighting, grabbing another player’s facemask and more. But of course there are things you shouldn’t do that are obvious like refusing to go on the ice, spearing, head-butts, picking up the puck, swing your stick around, use of alcohol or cigarettes on the bench, or use of electronic devices. Losing your temper on the ice is something to avoid because you could get a penalty for behavior. If you do end up in the penalty box, you will remain in there for two minutes. if the cross check had an intent to injure it could carry a five minute major and a game misconduct. Hockey is taken very seriously and when a player doesn’t follow instructions from their coach, the stands can get pretty angry. In conclusion, fighting does not happen as often as you see in movies. In fact, most people try to avoid fighting to not go in the penalty box. This is why most people think hockey is fun, it is very challenging and competitive.
