The Romans Road
Summary of Method – The Romans Road is an intellectual method of evangelism. It utilizes the book of Romans to illustrate to a nonbeliever the step necessary in orver to be saved. This method walks the evangelist and the nonbeliever through six specific versus in the Bible to call attention for the need of being saved, that a way to salvation has already been prepared, what will happen if the nonbeliever remains in the sinful state, that there is no other way to salvation except through Jesus, and that calling on the Lord is all that needs to be done. Because this is a service based approach, the nonbeliever could receive a false impression that works are required for salvation. This is especially possible if the person serving seems disinterested, doesn’t want to talk with the nonbeliever, or pushy, tries to deliver the good news in a condemning fashion immediately. In addition, the servant could not be fulling engaged with the evangelism. It is serving the community, however it is serving them with a purpose. While a teenager, I was a member of a local Boy Scout troop. Community service is an idea which is central in the Boy Scouts, so much in fact that the Scout slogan is “Do a Good Turn Daily”. Because I’ve been raised in an environment where community service is a way of life, servant evangelism seems to be a natural extension of my time in the Scouts. I also tend to be outgoing with the ability to start a conversation with anyone. Therefore to be able to say “I am doing this to show the love of Jesus in a practical way” would be natural for me. I can then take some time speaking about the gospel and answering any questions they may
