The Role of one agency in Health Promotion
Introduction
Before we talk about the agency Diabetes UK, we’ll give an outline on
diabetes.
Diabetes is a condition in which there’s an excessive amount of
glucose(sugar) in the blood. This occurs when the body can’t use
glucose properly because of a lack of insulin or when the insulin
doesn’t work properly.
There are two types of diabetes:
Type 1(insulin-dependent)diabetes occurs when the body is unable to
produce any insulin.
Type 2(non-insulin dependent)diabetes occurs when the body produces
insulin but it doesn’t work properly or there isn’t enough.
Now on to the agency Diabetes UK.
The Diabetic Association was set up in 1934 by novelist HG Wells and
Dr RD Lawrence – both of whom had diabetes. The radical charity they
founded aimed to ensure that everyone in the UK could gain access to
insulin, whatever their financial situation.
It became known as the British Diabetic Association in 1954. RD
Lawrence and the Association campaigned for a national health service
and believed that people with diabetes should take an active role in

Summary
The health campaign run by Lloyd’s Pharmacy was beneficial to public
health and successfully raised the profile and awareness of diabetes.
It sent out a clear message (if you are suffering any of the listed
symptoms, come and have a test).
750,000 people have been tested since the campaign has been run,
proving a substantial impact.
This type of campaign had a good public response and demonstrates the
effectiveness of primetime TV advertisements.
The longer-term health promotion should continue through education and
further health promotions to continue the assessment and monitoring of
diabetes.
This is an argument discussing the most important health promotion issue in Newham, borough of London, about the obesity. This borough (New ham) has massive issue about healthy food promotion, where there is too many fast food shop and restaurants all around schools. Many children in the area of Newham are obese according to the new report on 29 November 2015 published Newham Recorder news. The report identified that nearly half of year sex children in Newham city are overweight.

Mr A is a 56 year old male who is currently suffering from deep vein thrombosis and type 2 diabetes. D.P. receives an abundance of support in her life. She finds most of her motivation from her family because family means the world to her. The members in her family will encourage her to do her best along with attending diabetic information groups. She finds the support and motivation from her family to be a great way to help deal with her diabetes. Other family members who have diabetes or know someone else with diabetes helps her realize that this is not necessarily an ending of freedom or her life. The purpose of the scholarly paper part two is to demonstrate the completion of the evidence-based homeless health promotion project; it is specific to the population living in Miami, Florida. Recently at Shadow Health General Hospital, this nurse came across a patient, we will call TJ, who had an infected, slow healing wound on her foot. TJ is 28 year old African American woman, 170 cm tall, 90 kg and body mass index (BMI) of 31, who was diagnosed with type 2 diabetes four years ago. It was evident from the onset of meeting TJ that she wasn’t a very compliant patient, in terms of self-assessing her blood sugar or taking her medication. Often in practice, we as nurses deal with a variety of diseases and treatments and often have to react to the illness that the patient presents with upon our interaction. While this is an essential piece of our practice, we also have a duty to our patients to be proactive in preventing specific health-related consequences based on their risk factors and to promote their health and well being. Health promotion as it relates to nursing is about us empowering our patients to increase their control over their lives and well beings and includes: focusing on their health not just illness, empowering our patients, recognizing that health involves many dimensions and is also effected by factors outside of their control (Whitehead et al. 2008)..
In recent years, research has established that there is a growing prevalence of dementia among people aged 65 years and above. A study by Prince, Prina and Guerchet (2013), established that the global prevalence of dementia has been increasing at a rate of 7%, especially among the adults who were aged over 60 years old. Research has also shown that a great number of the minority communities especially those of immigrants are having a high incidence of Alzheimer's disease. Similarly, high incidence has also been seen in Caucasian people. In this same study, Native Americans showed to have lower rates of the Alzheimer disease compared to the whites (Anderson & Egge, 2014).

Health promotion includes providing activities that improve a person’s health. These activities assist patients to “maintain or enhance their present levels of health. Health promotion activities motivate people to act positively to reach more stable levels of health” (Potter & Perry, 2005, p. 97). In order for nurses to assist patients in obtaining healthy lifestyles, they must first assess a patient’s perception of health. The World Health Organization defines health as a “state of complete physical, mental, and social well-being, not merely the absence of disease or infirmity” (as cited in Potter & Perry, 2005, p. 91). There are many nursing theories that are based on an individual’s perception of health. Health education is one of the most controversial subjects taught in schools throughout the United States. Many people argue that the topics discussed in health classes do not have appropriate content for middle school and high school students to be learning. Despite the controversy surrounding these topics, health education is still an extremely important aspect of the middle school and high school curricula. Children are being exposed to alcohol, tobacco, and various drugs at earlier ages than ever before. Health education is the best vehicle to inform students of the dangers and consequences that are associated with these substances. Health education also allows students to become aware of the changes that will affect their minds and bodies as they continue to mature.
There has been a great deal of attention given by individuals, the media and by the government to Health Education. There is no doubt that a population which is “health literate” is significant for the sake of the “public health as a whole and consequently for public finances”(Tappe 2013) (Younghee 2013) Many countries including the U.S. have realized just how vitally this issues has become. (Younghee 2013) Sadly however, the ability understand basic health information, with or without health education, as well as access and process the services is only possessed by “50%”of the American public, resulting in the escalation or health care costs as well as poor decision making regarding health care. (Mancuso 2011) Yet the fact is that over the years at local, state, and institutional levels, health educators have been very successfully advocating to influence smoking regulations, child safety seat policies, nutrition policies, and many other health policies and regulations still a stunning “98.0%” of them report “barriers to policy activity”.
