With Islam religion being the second most popular religion that is around it respects that men are for the most part are more unrivaled than ladies in each aspect of life Due to the civilization in Afghanistan, the majority of the individuals that live there practice the Islam religion. Since then Islam ladies gained diverse rights that enable them to pick marriage accomplices, vote and work among different rights. In Afghanistan, ladies have encountered continual refusal of such rights and are considered more to be property than a person. An issue that is well presented is that of women not being able to share the same rights as men and is displayed in Khaled Hosseini's novel, A Thousand Splendid Suns. However, these marriages are arranged and once a woman gets married they are unable to get married with another man. Through obtaining divorce from abuse women are outcasted due to their Islamic religion. In the novel, Nana states, “Like a compass needle that always points north, a man’s accusing finger always finds a woman. Always. You remember that, Mariam.” ( Hosseini 7). Nana has been once shamed by her lover Jalil and abandoned by her father which leds to Nana being who she is which is bitter. This causes Nana to prepare her daughter for reality and to not be shocked from this harsh reality. Throughout the novel it is displayed that Nana was correct by the patriarchal society since Mariam receives constant abuse from Rasheed. In the article, “A Thousand Splendid Suns: The plight of Afghan women only partially depicted”, Thompson provides statistics on how “ 1 in every 3 Afghan women experience physical, psychological or sexual violence” (Thompson). This statement corresponds on how women are being treated in this society and has lead to the point that these women are living with psychological disorders since they have been abused and been through the worst. Women living in this society live under constant fear since they can never predict when they are going to get abused again.
