Every hour in the United States, somebody commits a hate crime; that's 24 crimes motivated by hatred of others every day. In 2015 there were 5,800 crimes reported, which increased to 6,100 cases in 2016. Hate crimes are on the rise in the United States and Americans need to figure out what is behind the rapid increase because the nation is becoming polarized and anyone perceived as other is in danger. The number of hate crimes hit a five year high in 2016, with a noticeable gain after the election of Donald Trump.
