Jill Stein stated “We create refugees, and then our Democratic Party, together with the Republicans, who are also a party to this, are criminalizing them and sending them back, inhumanely.”(8) she describes the refugee crisis through a third party perspective. Because the main voices on this issue are mainly democrat or republican, a third party view is an interesting take on this issue. The Syrian refugees has had an enormous effect on Europe and will continue to call in the morals of major world powers. Many factors have caused this issue so the crisis is more complex than it appears. Many of the countries directly and indirectly affected have put into place policies and a system in order to deal with this issue. The policies have helped …show more content…
Turkey, a country with more than two million refugees, has tried to limit the amount of migrants moving to Europe with varying success. The EU agreed to prelaunch Turkey’s stalled bid to join the European Union, because of this. The EU is also working with the countries surrounding Syria, in these countries, many people have taken refuge, these countries include Lebanon and Jordan. Syria’s other neighbors including, Bahrain, Kuwait, Qatar, Saudi Arabia, and the United Arab Emirates (6).
3. What conditions allow the issue to continue today?
There are many reasons that the refugee crisis continues today. The main reason is that. the Syrian Civil War remains ongoing. Today a few different groups are trying to overthrow the Syrian government one of which is ISIS. ISIS has taken over large areas of land and has displaced many Syrians (4).
The war caused nearly 11 Million Syrians, half of Syria’s population, to flee the country. 94% of the displaced Syrians are living in refugee camps located in the nearby nations of Turkey, Jordan, Lebanon, and Iraq, whereas 6% are fleeing to Europe. When this occurs the policies of the United nations and the European Union take effect in order to deal with the refugees
P-There are many political factors towards the refugee immigration caused by the conflict in Syria. Primarily, there was an uprising against the government by a band of rebel forces who were not happy with how the government was running things. The government responded with high measures of brutality to which the FSA ( Free Syrian Army ) responded with more strength
Refugees do not simply choose to be “refugees.” There are many aspects that go into account when displacement occurs. War is often associated with refugee displacement. Even a simple task of walking in the streets can be dangerous. In an interview with Time magazine, Syrian refugee Faez al Sharaa says that he was held up at gunpoint with three other people in his homeland after soldiers accused him of being a terrorist. "We felt death upon us," Sharaa said (Altman 24). His backyard turned into a battle ground, while young kids were fighting for their lives (Altman 24). War
The current migrant crisis is nothing more than a deliberate misuse of words. In fact, the Migrant Crisis should be renamed the European crisis because media and propaganda are so intent on transferring the center of crisis from the impoverished and war stricken populace of the Middle East to Europe. Various journalists have intentionally manipulated the meaning of the term “migrant” in order to obscure the humanity of countless men, women, and children. In addition, sources define migrants as “invaders coming to strip the European state of its economy and culture”(Geller). They argue that migrants have come to steal the jobs of the natives before them, feed off of the developed country’s insurance, and ultimately, as Viktor Orban, prime minister
During the month of October, Canada’s political scene was very busy due to the 2015 federal election held on the 19th. Throughout the previous months, the public held great interest towards the campaigns of each party as well as their platforms in order to choose the party that the public wanted as the new government of Canada. In the campaigns, a major topic that was included in every party’s plan was the Syrian refugee crisis that is currently an issue in many countries around the globe. This crisis has taken the media by storm and is a concern for many citizens in Canada. As a country known to be peaceful and generous, many people would assume that Canada would be one of the first to step in and help those in need but that is not the case. The general population does not know that the current laws in place make becoming a refugee in Canada a long and unfair process. Acquiring refugee status in Canada, protecting Canada’s Immigration System Act, health care for refugees and the current stance of Canada in regards to the refugee crisis are all factors that the general public must be more aware about. The current laws regarding refugees of Canada must change.
The Mental Health of refugees is an important factor that can play into how they adjust to, and live in a new area or country. It can be more difficult for a refugee to adjust to a new country if that country is on the other side of the spectrum when it comes to development. Some refugees immigrate to new countries to have a better life; most of those countries are high income countries. Today Syrian refugees are finding different ways to get into better counties in Europe. Many are coming in by boats loading as many people as possible, which results in dangerous journeys for the refugees and a large amount of people flooding European countries. Reported by the news network CNN, as many as 30 refugees are piling onto a small inflatable boat along the Turkish coast just to paddle their way to Greece (Watson). Many are just trying to create a better life for themselves or for their families. Refugees transitioning to these new countries can often experience culture shock once they enter into their host country. Researchers have found that refugees can be affected by post-traumatic stress disorder and
The Refugee crisis in Europe(such as syria and Afghanistan) has had a major effect on the economy and politics of the continent. Some critics argue that these immigrants, legal or illegal, should stay where they are while others argue that the refugees should be welcome or that they should even have open borders. Some countries allow these people to live peacefully in said country and they even provide some minor resources to the families. Not all countries are so kind though. Some
Another casual night: the air is sticky, and the water is scarce, all throughout the country the sound of gunshots are ringing through the air. For most people, this “casual” night is beyond their wildest imagination, but for Syrians it is an ongoing nightmare. Faced with the trauma of a civil war, Syrian refugees seek protection and a more promising future than the life they currently live in their oppressive country. Many seek refuge in other Middle East countries like Turkey and Jordan, but others search for hope in the icon of freedom, the United States of America. However, in America, there is an ongoing debate about whether or not Syrian refugees should be accepted. America needs to accept the Syrian refugees because if they do not, the
After the fall of the Berlin Wall in 1989, Europe tore down its borders. Today, a flood of refugees fleeing from Asylum in the Middle East and Africa, causing conflict and poverty. Europe experience the largest influx of refugees in the last summer, totaling to 1.26 million refugees that fled from their countries and sought asylum. The most refugees come from Syria because of constant civil wars against their dictator and the people and the chaos of ISIS have caused over 4 million to leave their land of birth. To manage the surge of refugees fleeing from their countries to European countries like Germany and Sweden they implemented border controls. They dismiss the notion that economic underdevelopment is a major determinant of refugee flows; instead showing that political ideology is more significant simply because of the political nature of their displacement. This book provides a highly comprehensive and informative analysis of the modern refugee crisis and helps clarify the origins of the problem and provide useful prescriptions of institutional reforms that would better deal with the situation.

Also some of the stateless can be refugees, these two groups of people is care by UNHCR (United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees). Cina believes the Syrian refugee crisis is a problem Europe can handle well on its own and America doesn’t need to take part of. This mentality resembles that of the United States during World War II, when Congress created a legal quota of 25,000 but only accepted 11,356 Jewish immigrants by 1937. With the incident of St. Louis, where 938 Jews on board a ship from Germany were denied entrance into Cuba and other areas along America’s coastline, and were eventually killed by the Nazis when they returned to Germany (Walter). The U.S government justified themselves by Franklin D. Roosevelt arguing that there might be a chance of Nazi spies slipping in- and uncanny resemblance to the current excuse. Cina claims that the true reason the European Union (E.U) won’t help the Syrian Refugees is because, “the E.U looks at refugees and sees nine million people they would have to feed, house, and heal, and they know that their countries can’t handle that without having
I have developed a personal standpoint a personal standpoint to demonstrate that I can identify, consider and form a personal opinion on a global issue.
Between January and November of this year more than 750,000 migrants have been estimated crossing into the EU’s borders compared to only 280,000 in the whole year during 2014 (www.bbc.com). This influx of refugees and asylum seekers from the Middle East has become a heavy burden for European Union policy makers. Many state leaders have opposing viewpoints and varying solutions to the crisis that is plaguing their region and as a result there has been little to no actions taken to solve this ever growing problem. This crisis should serve as prime example of global cooperation, and it should highlight the ability to come together internationally and deal with important problems that affect all individuals. The solution of the refugee crisis will
