P-There are many political factors towards the refugee immigration caused by the conflict in Syria. Primarily, there was an uprising against the government by a band of rebel forces who were not happy with how the government was running things. The government responded with high measures of brutality to which the FSA ( Free Syrian Army ) responded with more strength

There are many pros to having Syrian refugees in Canada, they create a more diverse community, their children get a better education, they can get jobs and most of all they don’t have to live in fear anymore. The cons that some Canadians are worried about is their strain on the economy as they have to have an adequate understanding of the english language to get a job, their culture and religion is also a big problem for some Canadians as Sunni Muslims make up about 70% of the population (Kannike, 2016) and in this group there can be some …show more content…
Some Canadians even agree with President Trumps Refugee ban. Canadians are scared of what the Sunni Muslims are associated with. That association is between the Sunni Muslims and ISIS, as some members of ISIS are radical Sunni Muslims. According to a 2015 statistic (Donnelly, 2015) 54% of Canadians are moderately to strongly against the government's plan to letting 25 000 Syrian refugees into Canada. According to another (Kanji, 2016) an online petition to stop resettling Syrian refugees in Canada had around 50 000 signatures, most people that signed it were under the impression that the Syrians were terrorists. These events that have happened in the past show us how some Canadians may be thinking right now in the present.
Stakeholders: Three of the most affected stakeholders in this situation are the Syrian refugees, Canadian citizens and the Canadian government. The Syrian refugees need a place to go as they are fleeing from their dangerous country. The Canadian citizens also are important stakeholders because they are the ones that are paying for the government funding and also they are the ones who will be feeling the effects of Syrian refugees in Canada. The Canadian government is also a stakeholder in the arrival of Syrian refugees because they are hoping to increase the population to increase the amount
Historically, Canada has held a world renowned reputation as nation with a magnanimous ideological approach to providing asylum to those individuals subjected to marginalization and persecution in their homeland – regardless of their nation of origin (Ismaili, 2011, p.89 & 92). Indeed, providing sanctuary to refugees who would otherwise experience significant hardships ranging from blatant discrimination and racism to torture and genocide, has very much become an institutionalized aspect of Canadian society. However, recent changes to Canada’s immigration policy delineated in the Immigration and Refugee Protection Act and Bill C-31 may have perhaps put this ideology in peril (Immigration and Refugee Protection Act, 2001).
Canada did accept Jewish refugees, but before the war and they only took in 4000 Jews. Canadians were very hostile towards Jews. Anti-Semitism existed in Canada back in the 1920s-30s. There were no Jewish lawyers, teachers and professors. Many Jews hid their identities in order to get a job. Signs saying no Jews allowed were hung outside of resorts and clubs. In 1930s Canada’s immigration policy was very restrictive, only British and American immigrants were preferred. So it didn’t allow Jews to enter Canada that wanted to flee Europe. 937 Jewish passengers on the M.S. St. Louis were refused to enter Canada. Because of Canada’s wartime policies nearly 2,300 men were interned as enemy aliens in camps across Canada in between 1940-1943.Canadians did think that Jews needed help, but they thought that they should be sent to Asia or Africa. Canada thought Jews would not make good settlers. Mackenzie King also had negative views on Jews, and he also believed in Jewish stereotypes.
Over the years Canada has become recognized as the most preferred country of both resettlement and travel. Thousands of individuals embark on a journey to Canada each year, because the country holds a remarkable reputation as a nation built upon peace, diversity, and acceptance. The multicultural environment in Canada is welcoming of people from multiple, ethnicities and cultures. The country’s history is very unique because it’s based heavily on immigration; Canada was established by the combined efforts from the indigenous First Nations and the European settlers from various parts of Europe. No single group can claim Canada to be theirs because it was a country built by immigrants and refugees from around the globe. Immigration has greatly influenced Canadian identity; it has become the vehicle which forged the character of Canada, as immigration policy changed so did the Canadian identity. The immigration sponsorship in addition to refugee programs made it possible for many Canadian refugees to reunite with their families, these programs influenced many refugees when deciding to immigrate to Canada. The multiculturalism and bilingualism is what makes this country standout as the number one immigrant destination. The various backgrounds, and nationalities which make up Canadian society, provides Canada with sense of diversity which can’t be found anywhere in the world. Canada must remain at the forefront of refugee immigration, changing or eliminating refugee programs will cause a loss of national identity.
According to citizen and immigration Canada statistics, (Immigrating to Canada, 2009), each year, Canada welcomes more than 200,000 new immigrants. It creates a diverse of multiple nationalities. Most immigrants from Europe or their descendants have religious backgrounds which respect universal fraternity. Also the multiculturalism makes Canada a "melting pot" for every member in the "pot". People respect each other and live together peacefully. People with different backgrounds live together peacefully without discrimination.
Convention refugees legally in Canada have aright to remain unless they are a threat to national security or public order. Unless they are a danger to Canada's security or have been convicted of a serious crime, they cannot be removed to a country where their lives or freedom would be threatened on account of race, religion, nationality, political opinion, or membership in a particular social group.
Since 1914, Canadian Human Rights laws have had a positive impact on helping to shape Canadian identity as one that is welcoming to various minority groups. Being a Canadian citizen provides you with the freedoms to travel, and settle in Canada at your own will and desire. Also, the freedom to express your sexual orientation is welcomed and well supported in many communities. Modern discrimination against categorizing human beings is very slim and everyone of all ethnic or cultural backgrounds are welcome with respect and good intentions. Canada is an extremely welcoming and protective place, in which nearly everything is done to promote equality, and a safe country.
Canadian Charter of Rights and Freedoms not only guarantees fundamental freedoms for Canadian citizens, but it also includes landed immigrants and refugees (Ed Corrigan, 2015). Under section 2 of the Human Rights and Freedom, everyone is entitled to democratic rights (S. 3-5), mobility rights (S.6), legal rights (s.7-14), equality rights (S.15), and language rights (S.16-22) (Government of Canada, 2016). Section 6 is very important for immigrants because it guarantees mobility rights for all permanent residents. This allows the freedom of movement within Canada and does not allow for the restriction of newcomers to just reside in one specific
It is without a doubt that Canada is considered one of the most welcoming and peaceful countries in the entire world. Individuals fleeing conflicts from different continents, on opposites sides of the planet, view Canada as a safe haven, a place to thrive, succeed, and safely live life to its fullest potential. Excellent healthcare, education, and proper gun control are just some of the many priviledges freely given to those who are lucky enough to call Canada their home. The Rights and Freedoms of Canadians are incomparable to those of individuals living in other countries, and with freedom of religion being one of them, it becomes crucial that we respect and show acceptance of different religions. However, it is saddening to see that in
...meframes and being subjected to arbitrary detention. Even after coming to Canada, the refugees must suffer under the healthcare system and fight for necessary medications. Canada is not doing all it can to help those who are in most need. The mass majority of the population of Canada does not understand the current laws in place regarding the refugees. These unfair, unreasonable and morally unaccepting laws must change to better the society of Canada. It is a country internationally known to be a peacekeeper, a friend, and a nation of many nationalities; called a mosaic for its accepting culture and diversity. Therefore, this cruel, discriminatory and immoral way of treating the refugees of the world is a disgrace and dishonour for the nation of Canada. Canada must improve to live up to the expectations of other countries and keep the dignity and pride of the nation.
Canada, being recognized as one of the best destinations for immigrants, has been and will be attracting more residents through immigration. Meanwhile, with its accelerated development, an increasing number of Chinese residents decide to move to Canada to experience a completely new way of living. Along with these immigrants are the dependent children that are bought Canada by their parents. New immigrants face challenges from all aspects, such as English being the new language, different culture and traditions, and an unfamiliar way of living (Pottie et al., 2008). To help immigrants through this difficult transition period, the government offers free English lessons to adult immigrants and many communities and organizations offer help with administrative tasks such as applying for health care and registering in local clubs and community centre. From the tremendous amount of effort by different organizations and sectors, it is easy to see how difficult it is to face the impact for adult new comers can be.
Second, many economical and social advantages will be offered for refugees. To illustrate, the Canadian government helped the refugees that immigrated to it by offering them allowance and social assistance .Consequently, Canada will offer them with a better and secure place to live in. To shed light on Morton (2005) who states that “Canada is one of roughly 150 countries to have signed a UN Convention, signalling a commitment to protect the persecuted and stateless. Canada is also part of a much smaller group of these Convention signatories about 20 - who offer not just temporary protection, but the option of permanent resettlement”. Last, gathering them in one country will lead to a lot of psychological advantages for refugees. In fact, they’ll feel like they’re living in their country and with their relatives which will make them feel more comfortable and satisfied. Also, that will help them to raise their children in the same that they were brought up in and thus they’ll preserve their culture and traditions. Accordingly, refugees will live in safe and suitable
Europe is facing one of the greatest influx of migrants and refugees in history. Hundreds of thousands of people have risked their lives fleeing the Middle East and Africa, pushed by civil war and terror. Among the forces driving approximately four million Syrian refugees into partaking the massive 2015 migration, conflicts raging in Syria and Afghanistan, and human right issues in Eritrea make up the majority of reasons. 62 percent of people who have reached Europe by boat are from those three countries. People are also setting out from Libya, Sudan, Pakistan, Nigeria, Kosovo, Iraqi, Iran, Somalia, and other countries, pulled by the premise of a better life in Germany, France, or the UK. The International Organization for Migration estimates
The act replaces the Federal Court appeal with a system of judicial review, which it will remain hard to overturn rejection decisions for the Federal Court and “continuing a theme of greater bureaucratic control over citizenship decision-making and less judicial oversight over the process” (Canadian Association of Refugee Lawyers). Lastly, another aim for bill C-24 is to prevent terrorist attacks in Canada and prevent terrorists from getting into Canada. Canada is stricter in accepting refugees the border is more securer. The increase in detention may be attributed to the manner in which refugees are now “securitized” and being portrayed as a terrorist or a security threat to Canada (Pratt). As media and policy discussions do not separate from post terrorists attacks like 9/11 in which the imagined terrorists are always Muslim or Arab (Payton). This view of Canadians causes inequalities and discrimination to the Muslim and Arab people and they are less likely to be granted citizenships and the regulations on accepting them as refugees would be
Another casual night: the air is sticky, and the water is scarce, all throughout the country the sound of gunshots are ringing through the air. For most people, this “casual” night is beyond their wildest imagination, but for Syrians it is an ongoing nightmare. Faced with the trauma of a civil war, Syrian refugees seek protection and a more promising future than the life they currently live in their oppressive country. Many seek refuge in other Middle East countries like Turkey and Jordan, but others search for hope in the icon of freedom, the United States of America. However, in America, there is an ongoing debate about whether or not Syrian refugees should be accepted. America needs to accept the Syrian refugees because if they do not, the
Currently, the largest cause of refugees is the Syrian civil war, which has displaced over 2.1 million people. As a country of relative wealth, the United States should be able to provide refuge for many refugees, as well as provide monetary support to the refugees that they are not able to receive. Countries surrounding Syria, such as Lebanon, Jordan, Turkey and Iraq have taken in the vast majority of Syrian refugees. In some countries, such as Lebanon, Syrian refugees make up over a quarter of the population. This causes extreme economic strain on a country, and can greatly increase the amount of poverty that is seen there.
