The American Dream is a far and distant reality today. Once upon a time, there was a notion that if you worked hard enough and pulled yourself up from your bootstrap that you would be able to make something of yourself, but that is not the case today. More Americans are losing hope in the American dream. The rest of the world no longer wants to be like the United States. Increasingly, the income and wealth gap is widening. Wages are stagnant. According to the 2014 edition of the Federal Reserve's Survey of Consumer Finances, wages rose at a constant rate after World War II for three decades and then became stagnant. Corporations are no longer creating value for their shareholders. Many only care about profit maximization and the interest of stockholders. Corporations have to act socially responsible or they will continue to do sweeping amounts of damage to society. Because of corporations sheer size and magnitude, they have the ability to influence many realms of life. An example is politics. Politicians are being bribed by corporations endlessly. Corporations are taking an active role in politics by financing politicians' campaigns so that they can support their ideology of globalization, deregulation and privatization that will help them become profit-making …show more content…

Privatization and deregulation can be beneficial for businesses that are trying to innovate and compete in the marketplace. The less restrictions, the more freedom you have and more profitable companies become. However, some sectors should not be privatized, namely, criminal justice and education sector. Prisons and schools are civil services. When you privatize things like that you provide an incentive for prosecutors to prosecute more people even though they may be innocent. Police are more inclined to arrest people because of the incentive. There are police districts that receive certain amounts of money for arresting people. There should never be an incentive for arresting people or prosecuting people. America is dealing with a moral crisis. Schools are increasingly being privatized and deregulated as well and students are feeling the effects of these
