Addiction, a strong and harmful need to regularly have something or do something. There are many things people can be addicted to, drinking coffee in the morning, excessive exercise, or their favorite TV show, many of these are harmless or a small inconvenience. However, in some cases, people can find themselves harming themselves and their families with their addictions, particularly with drugs like heroin or cocaine. The use of illegal drugs is an offense and punishable by law. However, how much of this is not decided by the user. In many cases addiction is something out of their control. In addition, some drugs that are illegal on the federal level, contrary to popular belief, lower the crime rate in the surrounding areas. Addiction also has no cure, it is a disease that requires lifelong treatment. Why are we putting those who are addicted in prison when they need to be helped?
