Here at Holmdel High School, many of us have older siblings who have graduated or are currently going through the high school experience. Many of the older siblings are either in college right now and some might be even farther along in life. That is good news for younger siblings who receive all of the inside scoop and advice on valuable information about teachers and class expectations. Or maybe you are the eldest sibling and are trying your best to set a good example for your younger siblings for when they eventually have your teachers. In either situation, ultimately all brothers and sisters will go through the same process, but some might say that the eldest sibling has it the hardest because they must set a good example for their younger siblings. Eldest siblings must also go through the process first, the trial child otherwise known. Responsibilities and all, it turns out that several studies have shown that the eldest sibling is the smartest, having a three point IQ advantage over the next sibling and so on. According to Lee Lofland, this may be a result of older siblings teaching and reinforcing knowledge and passing it down to younger siblings. In fact, younger siblings tend to develop traits that make them stand out over their older siblings. For example, in larger families the younger child is noted to be more extroverted than the older siblings simply because they are forced to find unique ways of getting attention.
