The way that Johnny changes throughout the book is that in the beginning he was scared but later on became brave and stronger. In the book The Outsiders its talks about the main character ,Ponyboy,and his point of view and talks about his friends. In society in their time period,there considered as greasers and are not wanted. Meanwhile on the other side of town there's the socials or socs. They are the opponents of the grazers and are always getting into fights just for the fun of it. The difference between the greasers and socs,is that the greasers live on the poor and troubled side of town. While on the other hand the socs live in the very wealthy part of town and are a bunch of snobby rich kids. I choose to follow Jonny …show more content…

Then I looked at Johnny. His eyes were shut and he was as white as a ghost. His breath was coming in smothered gasps. Two-Bit knew better than to scare Johnny like that. ”. This is because in a few pages it explains that he had just gotten jumped / beaten up by a bunch of socs,specifically one with rings “Soda reached him first. Johnny was lying face down on the ground. Soda turned him over gently, and I nearly got sick. Someone had beaten him badly”(Pg. 32). Also on page 33 “We were used to seeing Johnny banged up—his father clobbered him around a lot,. . But those beatings had been nothing like this. Johnny’s face was cut up and bruised and swollen, and there was a wide gash from his temple to his cheekbone. He would carry that scar all his life. His white T-shirt was splattered with blood. I just stood there, trembling with sudden cold. I thought he might be dead; surely nobody could be beaten like that and live. ”Undoubtedly after he's gotten beaten up,johnny has become more scared than ever. Especially since he doesn't have anyone to go home to take care of him and show him the love that he deserves.Johnny then throughout the story became more and more mad and would carry a blade with him in case the socs would try to hurt him.Later on in the book,ponyboys runs away from darry and sodapop,his brothers,and finds himself with johnny,They walk to the park so that ponyboy can cool off when drunk scos arrive on their side of town.There's then a huge fight that then gets way out of hand“Bob, the handsome Soc, was lying there in the moonlight, doubled up and still.
