The original American Dream is still alive in our great nation, and with hard work, it is within reach for almost all Americans. This quote from the winner of the first season of “The Apprentice,” construction manager of Trump Tower in Chicago, and entrepreneur, Bill Rancic, sums up what it takes to achieve the original American Dream. He said, “The American Dream is still alive out there, and hard work will get you there. You do not necessarily need to have an Ivy League education or to have millions of dollars of startup money. It can be done with an idea, hard word, and determination.” While this quote is true, Americans all over the country have given up on the American Dream and the hope of being successful. Without hope and belief that the American Dream is something that all Americans can attain, the nation as a whole cannot prosper. The original American dream, which is still achievable, has degenerated and should return to its original meaning. Derivation of the idea of the American Dream is from ideals that are listed in the Declaration of Independence. The Founding Fathers wrote that each citizen’s drive to capture their own definition of happiness is not an example of self indulgence, but a driver that is needed in order for our society to prosper. The American Dream depends on the dreamer him or herself. With hard work, the original American Dream can be achieved by any American citizen. Instead of a new American Dream that is more self-centered and based on materialism, America should return to the Dream that was drawn up by the creators of our nation. This is a dream consisting of every American having an equal and inalienable right to life, liberty, and the pursuit of whatever their vision of happiness may be. These rights are assured by law to all of America
