This proposed piece titled the “Joyous Orgy” is a series of apparel designed for the citizens living in the city that is described in the work “The Ones Who Walked Away from Omelas” a variations on a theme by William James.

2.Critical Summary of Text:

This text uses a strong usage of imagery to create a city deemed to be a place of unwavering happiness and joy at the loss of one child. It tells a story of a place filled with laughter, dancing and singing within a community settled in the midst of summer surrounded by bells, red roofed houses, and blossoming gardens. It is a city where people come via train, to see its amazing summer festival. In this city there are ways for people to become intoxicated with drugs or alcohol, but there is hardly ever a want. It connects to the text through imagining how the people of Omelas would dress. They based off the imagery theme created by the text. How the people in the city are “old people in long stiff robes of mauve and grey, grave master workmen, quiet, merry women carrying their babies….boys and girls naked”(1). It is designed to be relatable and practical to the environment, and activities imagined in the city of Omelas such as dancing, horse racing spectating, gardening, cooking, socialising, and celebrating. The women's garments all surround around the basic concept of wrap-around dresses however skirt length, sleeves, belts, pockets, necklines, and colours are varied in determination of age. The men's garments involve overall like garments that follow the wrap around theme however have pant legs.
