The Oil Spill A French submarine is preparing to survey the wreck of the sunken oil

tanker Prestige off the north-west coast of Spain to see if it is

still leaking oil.

However atrocious weather, which has been hampering operations to

contain the oil spill, is also preventing the submarine from diving.

Two weeks after the Prestige sank, patches of oil are still washing up

on the coast of Galicia.

More oil began arriving on beaches on Sunday and a major new slick is

floating just one kilometre off the coastline.

There are fears the strong winds and huge waves could force this slick

ashore, causing further environmental damage.

Spain's King Juan Carlos is due to visit a number of devastated

fishing villages on Monday to inspect clean-up operations.

Further leakage?

The three-man French mini-submarine Nautilus arrived in the port of

Vigo on Sunday.

Its crew plans to make a series of dives two miles ( 3.5 km) to the

seabed, to inspect the wreck of the tanker and see if it is still

leaking oil.
