Mechanical Engineering is one of the most far-reaching engineering field career wise, which designs, develop, build, and test inventions. According to “The 100 Best Jobs” an article on the internet, Mechanical Engineering is listed as 19 out of 100. The reasoning in the article that Mechanical Engineering was listed as number 19 was because of the higher salary, ability and opportunity for upward mobility, low unemployment rates, lower stress level and flexibility of hours. In the same article it uses a great quote from Tom Loughlin “One of the fun things about engineering is that there’s something in it for anybody.” One can interpret that as the world of engineering has endless opportunity, all one has to do is imagine. Mechanical Engineering is a great career field to enter because of the money, job opportunities in an ever expanding world of technology, and multitude of opportunities for satisfaction.
Mechanical Engineering is a great field to enter because of the pay. The median national pay for someone holding a Mechanical Engineering degree, and holding a job in a related job is $38.74 per hour or about $80,580 annually, they also list is as ranging from $52,000 at the 25th percentile to $121,500 at the 90th percentile. (O*Net Online). Depending on where you live this could be more or less. With an ever expanding and evolving society and the need for technology to increase enjoyment, longevity, sustainability and ease of life, it is easy to say that there will always be a need for mechanical engineers. There are many reasons that not listed may appeal to one seeking a fulfilling career, that would find a career in the mechanical engineering field to fulfill those standards. Some of the top reasons are the pay, the numerous possibility for job opportunities and personally satisfying. Whether one prefers to sit behind a desk on a computer, being hands on, or anything in-between, whether one prefers to save the world or save one person at a time there is something for everyone in the world of mechanical engineering.
