The changes the director produced made a much more dramatic plot to the movie, although the short story had diverse details, they were both entertaining. In the beginning of the story, Rainsford fell off the boat reaching for his pipe. Rainsford heard three gunshots and a terrifying scream while he was in the water. He swam towards the sounds which led him to an island. In the beginning of the movie, the ship wrecked. There was a huge explosion that threw Rainsford off the ship into shark infested waters. In the short story, there were no female characters. The director added a female to the movie to add more of a mystery and a romance. The truth can change a person’s entire view of a situation. Actions done in the absence of truth will be different than that same action done knowing the whole situation. In both Ender’s Game and the Hunger Games there are very many lies told by the authoritative figures that drastically change how the main characters Ender and Katniss react. Although they do both get lied to and don’t know the entire outlay of the world, how they react in these situations can be much different. Just because each character is greatly betrayed with a false truth, doesn’t mean their actions will result in the same outcome.
In the story “The Most Dangerous Game” by Richard Connell it talks about how Rainsford is stuck on an island where he plays a game where he is being hunted. Rainsford an expert hunter knows all there is to know about hunting. Zaroff is another expert hunter also knows almost everything about hunting. Zaroff starts hunting Rainsford as game he has not lost. If you do not play the game, you get tortured by Ivan. Ivan can not speak, and Zaroff was a Russian soldier.Obviously Rainsford and Zaroff are an expert on hunting.
There are multiple differences between the movie and the short story. Some of the differences were pretty major such as were the antagonists Bill and Sam kept the little trouble maker. In the short story Red Chief is kept in the cliché of a cave but the antagonist decide camping in the woods would keep the child more situated. The Ransom of Red Chief also had a difference in which the ransom note was placed I personally see this as the biggest difference because the entire concept is based around the ransom note. They still managed to change up the story line in the movie by giving a child the ransom note to give to the parents in the story the old post office Did the trick.

Whereas, in “Child By Tiger” the reader is not sure who the good main character is, and who the bad main character is. Although almost the entire short story is about Dick Prosser, the reader does not know if Prosser was the good or bad person. Dick Prosser shoots several people for reasons that the reader does not know. Moreover, the crowd that forms when Dick Prosser is discovered, may have also been the protagonist or antagonist. Dick Prosser may have had a reason to kill these people, but the citizens just did not understand. The difference between the short stories are being that “Most Dangerous Game” tells the reader succinctly that Rainsford is the good and Zaroff is the bad, but in “Child By Tiger” the author makes the reader think about which character is good and which one is bad. “Most Dangerous Game” is lives off of action. Likewise, we see this in the movie I, Robot where VIKI is so focused on completing her own goal of protecting as many humans as possible she disregards the thoughts of those who she is trying to protect in the first place. In contrast, in the story, we see the main character; Dave becomes the protagonist when he is selfless, putting a child’s innocence above his own emotions when he decides against grabbing the child in order to escape from the sewer. Richard Connell develops his characters quite well throughout the course of his short story, “The Most Dangerous Game.” The majority of the story revolves around Rainsford as he changes from the hunter on the boat to the hunted after meeting Zaroff, and back and forth between the two, but in the end Rainsford proves to be the ultimate hunter.
In conclusion, details involving the characters and symbolic meanings to objects are the factors that make the novel better than the movie. Leaving out aspects of the novel limits the viewer’s appreciation for the story. One may favor the film over the novel or vice versa, but that person will not overlook the intense work that went into the making of both. The film and novel have their similarities and differences, but both effectively communicate their meaning to the public.
To conclude comparing/contrasting the short story to the film is that there were many changes between these two. The main ideas of the short story and the film are the same but the little changes from the short story to the film are much better and make it more interesting to watch. Overall they were both cliffhangers and had many twists and turns but to finish it off the film was better with the changes.
Although all the changes which are necessary but still bothers the readers of the original work, the film contained the same melancholy and excitement in the story. We learn in both works that the number of people who leave is high, but the one who stay is even higher and everyone has their own story and sadness to share. The filmic adaptation intensifies the literary work, and both of them can be studied and compared side by side and still have their own particular charm.
Along the same lines, the remake makes it easier for the viewer to know more about what is going on by showing more of both sides of the story than the original. There is more mystery in the original because although Jewison gives the viewer all the pieces to the puzzle, he makes them put the story together themselves. McTiernan's version "connects the dots" for the viewer thus allowing them to better understand what is going on.
Of the many changes made between the book and the movie, most were made to keep the audience interested in the story. Most people who watch TV don’t have a long attention span. Executives at NBC didn’t want to spend millions to produce a movie and then have nobody watch it. The screenwriters had to throw in some clever plot twists to keep people interested. Another reason the movie was different from the book was the material in the book was a little too racy for network TV. Take the ending, for example, nobody wants to see a grown man hang himself. This was a reason the producers had to change some material in the movie.
