Even when death occurs there will always be a lasting legacy of the people that have died. In the story “The Monkey’s Paw” and the story “There Will Come Soft Rains”, people died and a lasting legacy is left behind. When someone dies there will always be the thought of wanting the person back or wanting them to still be here today.
Many times throughout the short story of “The Monkey’s Paw” Mr. and Mrs. White wanted their son Herbert to come back home to live and to be with them. One day Herbert leaves for work, and after waiting for a long time for him to come home, Mr. and Mrs. White find out that he was killed at work. A woman comes to their house to tell them the news and give them money for workers compensation. Mr. and Mrs. White then wish for their son, Herbert, to come back to life with them, by saying “I wish my son alive again” (pg 52). The couple wanted to have the legacy of their son live on, even though he was gone. Herbert was a helpful man and the elderly couple needing the help, and once he passed away only his legacy was left behind. It was a legacy of being a helpful son to his parents. …show more content…

In the story, everyone in the family has passed on and the house continues to work. The house tells the family, that has died, what time it is, it will make food, feed the dog, and much more. The house did not want to stop working after everyone in the family had died. It kept working like clockwork and saying “Tick-tock, seven o’clock, time to get up, seven o’clock” (pg 535)! The house wanted to keep the legacy of the family that lived in it. The house wanted to work the way that the family had worked and ran their whole lives. The house just didn’t want to stop even though “the morning house lay empty” (pg 535). The house kept the legacy of the passed on family very
