While looking for similarities and differences between the Last Supper story in the three Synoptic Gospels, our group noticed that the Evangelists decided to word many sentences either exactly the same or very similarly. The Evangelists also decided to include similar descriptions of the Last Supper story, making all the Gospels almost the same. However, one major decision by the author of Luke that stuck out to us was to include the quote from Jesus that reads, “I have eagerly desired to eat this Passover with you before I suffer, for, I tell you, I shall not eat it again until there is fulfillment in the kingdom of God.” This quote, or anything resembling this quote, was not found in any other passage, making it more noticeable to our group. …show more content…

He does not go into extensive detail when talking about the actual meal and uses many pronouns throughout the story instead of pointing out specific people. He never calls Jesus by name and says “them” and “they” instead of “the disciples.” Mark contains many elements of double and triple tradition. Since Mark’s Gospel acted as a source for both Matthew and Luke, there are only two phrases that are unique to Mark, and these phrases are just extra phrases that were most likely edited out later by Matthew and Luke, including “Amen, I say to you” and “...and they all drank from it.” Evidence of double tradition exists between Mark and Matthew, including the phrases “the day when I drink it with you new in the kingdom…” and, “Then, after singing a hymn, they went out to the Mount of Olives.” The only double tradition that exists with Luke, however, is using the phrase “kingdom of God” instead of Matthew using “kingdom of my Father.” The phrases exemplifying triple tradition, which both Matthew and Luke kept the same when using Mark, include “Then he took the bread, said the blessing, broke it, and gave it to them, saying,“This is my body,” and, “This cup is the new covenant in my blood, which will be shed for
