Through certain literary techniques, Alfred Lord Tennyson improved the message of a popular poem called “The Lady of Shalott”. The literary techniques used in the poem inspired artists and musicians to create magnificent pieces of art and wonderful music all based off of “The Lady of Shalott”. The storyline of the poem was another thing that pulled people in. In “The Lady of Shalott”, there was this island in the middle of two rivers. On the island was a castle, with a lonely woman named The Lady of Shalott in it. On the mainland, there was a highway that led to the magnificent city of Camelot. When people were on their way to Camelot, they didn’t really look deep into the castle because they were too focused on getting to Camelot. The lady …show more content…

A very popular song called “If I Die Young”, was greatly influenced by “The Lady of Shalott”. In the song, the lyrics talk about a woman wearing a white dress riding into a man’s kingdom. In the poem, The Lady of Shalott was wearing a white dress while she floated down to Sir Lancelot's kingdom. Also in the song, it said “Sink me in the river at dawn”. In “The Lady of Shalott”, she got in a boat on a river. In conclusion, you can tell that “If I Die Young” was loosely based off of “The Lady of Shalott. Also some pieces of art were made based off of the story. Some artwork was made based on the descriptive language that the author used. For example, the painting “The Lady of Shalott” by William Waterhouse looks almost exactly like the picture the reader makes in their mind based of of the words that Tennyson uses. One of the lines used In the poem to create a part of the painting is when The Lady of Shalott gets on the boat, it says that there was a water-lily blooming and in the painting there are water-lilies blooming. “She saw the water-lily bloom” (Tennyson). A great amount of art and music was influenced by “The Lady of Shalott”.
