As children, there is usually a person in our lives, who we admire and long for their approval. In his novel, The Kite Runner, Hosseini illustrates the desire for parental acceptance and the struggle of expectations within a household, through the relationship between Amir and Baba. Baba, Amir’s father, was a successful and renowned man in Kabul, which intimidated Amir because he did not display the same characteristics. Also, Amir felt guilty for being the reason his mother died; moreover, he felt that he had robbed his father of his wife. In chapter two he states: “After all, I_had_killed his beloved wife, his beautiful princess, hadn't I?”(Pg. 14) This quote reflects Amir’s respect for Baba and anguish from the lost of a parent.
