A bond so valued and pursued, may not always be one of containing only love, but one filled with pain. The relationship between a parent and child helps prepare the maturing children to understand right from wrong. Khalid Hosseini in, The Kite Runner, uses the complex emotional bond between parent and child to demonstrate the need of a concerned parent. The relationships that clearly demonstrate concerned parent figure are between Baba and Amir, Hassan and Sohrab and Amir and Sohrab. To begin, the tense relationship between the protagonist, Amir and his father Baba demonstrates the disagreement among child and parent. The role of father-son is a dominant relationship in literature; the father is a very important role model to the child. Every boy needs a figure to influence them; however Baba did not live up to his expectations. The fact that Amir and Baba were opposite from one another signified a weak relationship. Baba had expressed his concern to his best friend, Rahim Khan, who is also known as Amir’s motivator. The representation of social class is used to determine the relationship between Amir and Baba. Baba believes he needed to be an inspiration to his son. Harsh words like, “If I hadn’t seen the doctor pull him out of my wife with my own eyes, I’d never believe he’s my son. (25)” can help define their beliefs. A child tries to build their parents trust by committing and altering behaviours that done feel true just to persuade a parent. Stereotypes such as: men should never be emotional, men always need to have interest in sports; portraits that Baba cares more about his class then his own son. Due to jealousy of the relationship between Hassan, whom had been introduced as a servant then later on revealed to be... ... middle of paper ... ...trayed. The connection between Amir and Sohrab had been created when enrolling in a mutual task. Connection between a child and a parent figure emphasises their life experience. Amir and Sohrab’s relationship had begun parallel to Amir and Baba’s relationship. The story indicated that awful things happen to children when ‘fatherly figure’ does not play a role in their lives. Later on, the relationship mirrored toward Hassan and Sohrab’s relationship since Amir got Sohrab to start talking. The use of love and tension between the parent and child had help the readers demonstrate the importance of a elder figure in one’s life. The various different style of relationship help compare between the acceptable and undesirable a person can experience. Truly, a child is required a parent figure to help with situations and concerns; to share and express their opinions.
