Angela Kelly Mr. Bowen Criminology 14th May, 2014 The Casey Anthony Trial The Casey Anthony Trial was the trial of the decade. Everyday across the country, Americans would sit in front of their televisions and watch the trial anxiously. This case is about a child, Caylee Anthony, who was found dead, but the mystery is how she died. Some say she was murdered by her mother, Casey Anthony, while others presume she drowned. Although there was a verdict, what truly happened will always remain a mystery. On August 19th, 2005, Caylee Anthony was born not into the best of homes. Her father was not in the picture while her mother loved partying, although she did have two very loving grandparents, George and Cindy Anthony. Caylee was everything to her grandparents, so when they did not see her for a month they started ask to questions. On July 15th, 2008, with the help from Casey’s friend, Amy Huizenga, Cindy finally gets Casey home. Casey finally confessed that she had not seen Caylee for exactly 31 one days and claims the babysitter, Zenaida Gonzalez, has kidnapped her. Cindy calls the police anxiously three separate times, one of the times she even says, “I found my daughter's car today and it smelled like there's been a dead body in the damn car.” By July 16th, 2008, the police drove all over to try to find Caylee and the babysitter. Casey had them drive places she knew Gonzalez hung out a lot, it ranged from a supermarket to a nightclub to even a retirement home. The police drew the line after they went to the apartment complex where Gonzalez was supposedly staying and found it has been vacant for months. Later the police started to feel that Casey was putting them on a wild goose chase, when she took them to Universal Studios c... ... middle of paper ... ...he police because she would be imprisoned for child neglect. The defense not only came out and said George Anthony covered it up, but they also say that he sexually abused Casey as a child which later would cause her to hide her pain and lie. They also claimed that Caylee was George’s child. As the trial continues, bit by bit evidence all starts to come together for the prosecution. There was found to be signs of decomposing remains in addtion to high levels of choloform in the truck. Forensic scientist found that there was hair similiar to that of hair found in Caylee’s hair brush and that the hair they found came from a body that was decomposing. Two dog handlers said that their dogs found signs of a decomposing body in Caylee’s play house and in the Anthony’s backyard and finally Casey’s home computer was found to have searches on it on how to make chloroform.
