In his article titled, "Team Leadership at the 100-foot Level" Robert Trent argues that effective team leadership requires individuals who are qualified in a variety of knowledge and skill areas. His belief is that a successful leader should have knowledge in multiple areas. Do you support the notion that a "generalist" is better than a "specialist" (one with expertise in one specific area) in a leadership position? ? Productive team cognition models involve conscious deliberation and reflect explicit knowledge, (Healy, Vuori, & Hodgkinson, 2015). Teams succeed when shared knowledge and deliberation occurs. I have been on many committees and contribute to groups that were successful that allowed their team members to share ideas and experiences. Some teams allow limited share knowledge creating a limited solution that may not be correct for the situation.
In order for teams to be successful, they also need to have a clear team vision and role definition. According to Lynn & Kalay (2015), team members pull the group in different directions and create poor performance when there is no clear team vision and undefined roles of team members. Team members must be able to clearly understand what the goals of the team consist
