Many individuals follow and contribute to social media, and many of those same people hold employment at a company. Although social media is a drastic part of society, there is a fine line between mixing the online world with your business association. Every person with a job has experienced in some way a disliking with their job. It may be something little, but the average working person has rendered a problem with their job, whether the issue be small or large. The fact of the matter is, a dislike with a company 's asset does not give one the right to criticize or slander the company one works for.
What many consider being private is actually open to the public and can be viewed by businesses, colleges and universities. Even though people believe that their social networking profile is private due to their privacy settings, they still need to be careful. Businesses have fired employees and colleges have chosen not to accept students as the result of their social networking profiles. You can’t post anything that has to do with racial altercations, and threats. Many people “voice” their point of views online. If they have a problem or need help, they have a virtual audience instead of standing in front of millions of people and having to communicate with them. You don’t know what other people have been through in their life time, so you should never post anything that could really offend a person.
Many candidates applying for jobs portray themselves to carry a certain demeanor, but when I dive into their online information, often I find that their social media sites do not reflect the same demeanor I’ve seen from them. Many Hiring Managers utilize social media to determine if a candidate is being honest about who they are and what is important to them. More than once, I have found that what seems to be a presentable, professional candidate has a less than stellar demeanor on Facebook.
