Christmas is a busy time of year, with many people travelling to spend time with their loved ones or to simply get out of the stresses of organizing a massive Christmas party. But plenty of people spend Christmas at home and after spending a lot of money on Christmas presents and foods, you might be looking for inexpensive things to do. If you are staying home this Christmas, here are a list of fun activities you can do without breaking the budget.
Gingerbread house competition
If you’re spending time with the family or a few friends, organize a fun gingerbread house competition. You could buy the ingredients from Amazon and have a set time for creating your best gingerbread house. Don’t forget to get some candy to decorate your homes. Organize a potluck Christmas party
If your neighbors and friends are also staying home, throw a big party after Christmas (on Boxing day, for example). Have the party in potluck style to ensure you don’t need to be in charge of sorting it out on your own. Find a good bottle of wine from the Wine Library and check out cheap groceries at Ocado to guarantee a great party. Make sure to decide who does what a beforehand to ensure you don’t end up with seven desserts and no mains!

Each year we go to the same place, and do the exact same things. Visit sponge docks in Tarpon Springs on thursday. Watch them build big sand castles on Tuesday. Although I love the time with my family, it can never be the same as our first trips with my Uncle Tom. Due to the law of diminishing marginal utility, I began getting less and less happiness out of each christmas vacation. My marginal utility has diminished to the point where I do not think going would make me any happier. I believe staying in town and being with my friends this year would help me to achieve the maximum utility over christmas
Christmas is coming and it's always fun. It is not always just about the gifts, but getting gifts is fun. There is always a huge pile of gift under my grandparents tree. We usually eat lunch and then open up the gifts. I love christmas eve at home though. We go to the longest night service a are church. Then in the morning we open are stockings and presents.
There are approximately 196 countries in the world and almost every single one of them celebrates Christmas differently. Christmas in Mexico (Navidad) is a million times different than the Christmas that we know and celebrate in the U.S. In Mexico there are lots of events that happen before January 6th, which is Epiphany day (The day of the Three Wise Men) also known as “El Dia de los Reyes”. Christmas is a special time of year that deserves to be remembered for its true meaning. Every year, Christmas becomes more and more commercialized and society forgets the origin of Christmas. It was not started with cookies, toys, and a fat man that delivers them, but instead it started with a humble inn where our Savior was born. The definition of Christmas is “a holiday on December 25 celebrating the birth of Jesus Christ.” Nowhere in that definition does it say anything about the outrageous pressure society has set on consumers to buy, buy, buy during the Christmas season. Christmas is about presence not presents.

Today it seems as though Christmas has fallen victim to materialism and commercialization. Rather than it being a time of loving and giving, it has become a stressful season of greed. Amidst all the hustle and bustle, it is important for us to recognize the true reason of the season, and celebrate in a fashion that exemplifies that reason.
Emma, Marissa and I are in charge of the making the lefse. This has been our job ever since we were little girls, becoming experts through all our years of experience. My grandma makes the most amazing food and always has enough to feed us for a week. After we stuff ourselves full of delicious, lasagna, salads, and hot dishes all made with love and while the adults lean back comfortably in their chairs, us kids go put on our pajamas and troop downstairs to open our gifts. The most memorable gift would be the ring my grandma gave me that used to be my great-grandmothers who died a couple days after my grandma turned fifteen. My great-grandma loved to travel and had a great passion for fashion, so this circle of metal with a little diamond in the middle and a floral pattern surrounding it, had been bought in California and has been in the family since. “Bang, bang, bang!” A huge pounding comes from the front door. Dogs bark, adults grin, and we race to open the creaky door. Santa Claus, eyes twinkling, dressed in red with coal-black boots, and swinging a sack over his right shoulder, steps inside. He plops down heavily; ringing merry bells and passes them off to David, my brother, telling him seriously to keep ringing them so Rudolf won’t fly away without him. With wide eyes, little David shakes the bells with such rigor that if Rudolf was in the North Pole he would be able to hear them. We each take a turn perching on his knee, hesitant at first but then opening up and telling him our age and that, “yes we have been really, really, really good this year.” As Santa’s beard tickles our chin as we lean in close for a picture and his big belly shakes as he laughs at the same time as you start to giggle. The foods are delicious. There are different varieties of food to get and to make. One item that gets eaten every time that Christmas comes and they are gingerbread houses. The gingerbread houses get made, decorated, and then eaten. A common food that Mexicans eat for Christmas are tamales. They are delicious. Another item that people eat are stews and soups, which can be eaten to keep warm. Afterwards in the night people can drink hot chocolate or hot cocoa to keep and stay warm. Eating in bed is the only way to eat (“27 Reasons Winter Is Better Than Summer”). Throughout winter, it gets cold so sometimes it becomes hard to get out of bed so eating in bed becomes the best highlight of winter. Nobody can wait for that day to come and then everyone will just be eating in bed and nowhere else.
We spend the day baking cookies, making fudge and preparing a big Christmas dinner, with all the trimmings. The children love to see each other. They spend the day playing games and sharing their new gifts and toys that Santa Claus brought for each of them. They get so eager to decorate, that it is hard to restrain them.Decorating for Christmas is so much fun. My father always draws a new background scenery, for the Nativity scene, that he displays, every year. He, my brother-in-laws and my husband start with the decorations for the outside of the house and the front yard.

My grandma is 85 years old and she loves gambling, so we play rummy, but we bet money also. My uncle was a blackjack dealer in Las Vegas for two years; he is our dealer. Everyone is very competitive, which makes playing cards fun. We do not bet anything more than a few coins. No big dollars or anything. Playing cards is a good way to have a few laughs and for good bonding time with the family. By the end of the night, we make some hot chocolate and gather around the Christmas tree to tell stories.
