Many tourists travel to different parts of the world today. Most people want to just relax and feel at peace. There are many beautiful beaches available. Being under the hot sun, having a cool drink in one’s hand, and being with your loved ones sounds like the ideal vacation for everybody. People are not aware that one of the reasons why oceans are naturally beautiful is because of coral reefs. Today, many of the coral reef ecosystems are in danger and declining in number. The government and citizens around the world should start taking this seriously because coral reefs provide many benefits to organisms underwater and also to humans.
Most people are not aware that coral reefs are in great danger today. Day by day, more and more coral reefs are suffering from different kind of stressors they experience. In the article “Mass Coral Bleaching in 2012 in the Southern Caribbean” by Jahson Alemu and Ysharda Clement reports that marine pollution, carbon dioxide emissions, overfishing, climate changes, overfishing and dynamite fishing all lead coral reefs to bleach. Coral bleaching is when corals turn completely white (2014). When coral reefs are white, they are considered weak and unhealthy. According to Jashson Alemu and Ysharda Clenement, a mass bleaching took place and caused “up to 85% bleaching and up to 75% mortality of important reef-building species…in Tobago” in 2005 (2014). The result of this mass bleaching should influence government and people to do something about it. Many businesses should build partnerships with other business to donate some of their money. The government should play a stricter role in this. By having governments talk to each other from other countries can make a different. Organizations can also planting mangroves. This will prevent erosions from happening. By uniting as one, they can make a difference and can stop the decline of coral reefs. Having coral reefs around the world protect will benefit both human and nonhuman in the long run. By changing our lifestyle to protect the coral reefs, humans will also be helping out our environment to be green and unpolluted.
