The 1960’s was a time full of different movements that have affected the outcome of our lives today. The movements dealt with all sorts of things such as women rights, equal rights, and how the hippies made it today. I have decided to write over the hippy movement, because of the different things they have interests in. The hippies have their own set of beliefs, their own style of clothing, and their own kind of music they listen to. The only negative aspect of hippies was that they did drugs, but most people don’t know where they came from or how they made it. The past was a lifestyle with way different expectations and laws that some argued and some did not. Being a hippie back in the day was not all that fun, but then again not everything is always fun no matter what you do. The word hippies is a Latin word used to describe hip and careless people. Being called a hippie then was just another name, but today some may take offense to it because of the judgmental stories behind them. The hippies were a young group of people who joined together to express their own beliefs. They believed that the wars were not necessary and only caused the violence in the world. These are the modern day hippies. The vast majority of them are the sons, daughters and grandchildren of the original hippies. They advocate many of the same beliefs as their 1960’s counterparts. They are not against drug use, but most Neo-hippies do not find it necessary to take drugs in order to be a part of the hippie lifestyle. Other Neo-hippies reject drug use in favor of alternative methods of reaching higher consciousness such as drumming circles, community singing, meditation, dietary practices, yoga, and dance. They find these activities just as fulfilling as using drugs, which is why they choose to do these things
